So for those of us who like to keep things updated (only way to get those security patches) how easy is it to switch roms? Can I just flash the Chinese 7.9.14 rom over the EU 7.9.7, and then just flash Opengapps and Magisk?

This is not a proper solution. Keep for example in mind you will not have widevine support anymore.

The French app Molotov 100% sure will not work. Most likely Netflix will give you trouble (Netflix offline downloads will be affected).

So I tried flashing the latest China dev rom (which seems to be only 7.9.8 atm) over the EU one and it works pretty ok, but Open Gapps doesn't work very well, with Google force closing every couple of minutes and gmail wont open. Tried messing around with permissions (some of the gapps don't have them set on automatically) but couldn't fix the Google FCs and gmail not opening, so I've gone back to a backup of the EU rom for now. Oh also the safety net check in the Magisk app fails.

I might try wiping everything first then installing the China rom, Magisk and OpenGapps to see if that fixes things but don't have the time atm.

I flsh miui.it, it's multi lenguage and up to date. now i have split screen...
The miui.it ROM seems to work a little better than the China Dev rom, but still has the same issues with Gmail and Safety Check.
Don't mind too much about Safety Check not passing, but I can't really do without Gmail.

Which Google apps did you use? On the official forums there's a method for adding Google apps by restoring a backup. Has anyone tried this?

Will flashing the latest China developer ROM and then this possibly work?

on miui.it you have playstore and after you can download what you want.

What's the benfits of miui.it as compared to xiaomi.eu? Multi language and play store? Is it updated weekly?

I require only English so if Google Apps can be installed and work then maybe going back to China Dev is not so bad.

Just flash via miflash with china last dev miui fastboot rom. Configure, install gapps from miui backup or from gapps.zip and use it.
I use china dev on my phones 2 years and are great rom.

Is there a TWRP flashable zip I can get?

I've been messing around with the China Dev rom, but couldn't find a gapps that worked properly with it. I tried the backup from the official forum and a newer backup from Tech Tablets, but they both had problems.

What problems? I used gapps.zip(instaled on twrp) on mi4 on china miui8 and china miui9, use gapps from backup on mi5c in china miui 8 and 9. And work good. On mi5c i dont use twrp.

The best I could get it was Google Play Services would fc every couple of minutes and Google Play itself would get stuck on thinking I was logged out of Google when I wasn't. There's probably just some tiny part of Miui 9 for the Mi Pad 3 that's conflicting with Gapps, but I have no idea what it could be.
Anyway today I think I'll try a clean install of Miui.it because that did seem promising, plus it already has Gapps according to Pingy82 which I didn't realise when I first tried it.

The miui.it ROM seems pretty good after using it all afternoon and evening, did a clean install to get rid of the Open Gapps stuff and just used the Google play that comes with the rom.

Could you check some stuff for me?

First, is the Dutch language available?

And secondly, do you have Netflix? If so, are you able to download episodes or is that function not available?

Here's a screenshot of the language screen, but I'm fairly sure none of those are Dutch.

The Netflix downloading function works fine, although I don't know if that's because I downloaded module called 'Universal Safetynet fix' in Magisk or not

They add only Italiano, rest language are in china rom. This not better.

Thanks for the miui.it rom tip!

There is only Italiano added, but if you flash it over xiaomi.eu rom, you keep your current language setting (don't change it after!)
Your apps will stay in your desired language, only system apps (settings, and a few others) will default to english.

And yes, widevine DRM seems to work. Molotov app is ok.
(not rooted here)

I came across this thread at the official forums: http://en.miui.com/thread-863257-1-1.html and in particular http://www.goplaycn.com/

I did the following:
  1. Dirty flashed China Dev ROM 7.9.14 over xiaomi.eu 7.9.7. Installed Magisk for root. Wipe cache and dalvik. Rebooted.
  2. Immediately installed Magisk Manager APK and the APK from GoPlayCN. Clicked through to grant it root permissions and to install Google Services. It's all in Chinese but is fairly self-explanatory.
  3. Make sure Google and it's services apps all have permissions. Uninstalled GoPlayCN. Rebooted again.
Initial run of Play Store FC'd as did a few other Google apps but has worked well since. I get the occasional "Google Play Services has stopped" message which I never received on the EU versions. No issues with email via Inbox, installing or updating APK's and other apps.

Magisk Safety Net test reports ctsProfile as false and basic integrity as true. What this means in terms of DRM I am not sure as I don't use those services.

General observations on the China Developer ROM. September 14 build has split screen and August security patch. There are a couple of extra apps I didn't see on the EU build. Some of these can be manually removed. Can someone recommend a list of these apps that can be disabled and a good app for doing so?

It's a shame the xiaomi.eu builds have stopped. I disagree with the justification but ultimately, it's their project and their call. It would be great to get monthly and stable builds as others have said, if that is an option? Without that, I can live with the China developer ROM.
