Hi.
I have been using LineageOS Android 10 based custom ROM for a couple of months, but it had some camera issues. When I noticed there was a xiaomi.eu MIUI12 ROM avalible to download I decided to install it (I did a clean flash. Wiped everything and formated data). All seemed fine, then I tried to turn NFC on through the quick menu. The icon turned blue, but the NFC indicator didn't show up in the notification tray. I tried to turn it off, but clicking the NFC button did nothing, it stayed blue. In settings the NFC options are grayed out and NFC doesn't work. I tried installing Xiaomi.eu MIUI11 - same issue, then I tried to install stock MIUI11 - same issue. Now I'm back on Xiaomi.eu MIUI12 and i'm hoping someone can help me figure this out, because I can't think of any way of fixing the issue.

It only happens to some people, not to all, if you put a state it works NFC, if you install stock miui it doesn't work, if you install custom miui it doesn't work, if you do it by fastboot it doesn't work, if you do it by edl it doesn't work either. But if you install Aosp rom it works perfect. I have not found a solution at the moment. It works perfect for me but not for friends of mine.

Damn, that sucks. I guess I'm coming back to crDroidAndroid. I think that flashing stock, locking bootloader and doing factory reset could work, but I don't want to lock my bootloader. I'm still open to suggestions if anyone has any.
Edit: What do you mean by "Been ROM"? I tried searching on google but nothing comes up.

Sorry it's a translation error, it's Aosp rom or based on lineage rom it works perfect

You are right. I just reinstalled crDroid (lineage based) and it works just fine.

I was using paranoid android for a bit and the latest Q5 release broke NFC. There was a flashable zip available that let NFC work again. It's on the XDA thread and might be worth a try if you try miui again.

It does not work we have already tried it. This does not happen to everyone, for example nfc works for me

Sadly it didn't work. I reflashed MIUI just to try it, but the issue is still there :/

It's strange, because i've flashed stock rom again, via MiFlash, NFC doesn't worked, i've flashed MIUI 11 (.eu) and again, doesn't worked. I've came from ported MIUI 12, and previously MIUI 11 (.eu), where it was working.

Maybe MIUI12 installation is what causes it? I installed the Xiaomi.eu MIUI12 and NFC didn't work there, then I tried 11 (EU and stock) and didn't work there either. It now stopped working in Paranoid Android(tried it today) but still works in CrDroid. It seems like I'm not the only one with the issue so hopefully devs can figure something out!

Apparently I managed to solve the problem. I installed the ParanoidAndroid ROM (PA4) via TWRP after a full wipe (including format data), booting, tested the NFC and it worked perfectly (I transferred a photo via NFC to my wife's Galaxy A51), rebooted, then went back to TWRP, installed the MIUI 12 (dirty flash, over the PA), after that I did the format data and boot to system. After starting, NFC on/off is allowed, but (I believe that because Xiaomi.eu does not have Android Beam), I was unable to transfer a photo again, but my wife's phone recognized an attempt to transfer via NFC ( the message "no application compatible with this NFC tag" appears). I will test on a payment machine to make sure it works.

Interesting! By full wipe do you mean everything except SD card and USB right? Did you use the NFC fix zip after installing PA4? Also which version of PA did you use (I'm guessing the newest available PA4 one). I'm sorry about the questions but I want to be sure I get it right. I will give it a shot tomorrow. Also how do you like MIUI12? Is it as smooth as android 10 custom ROMs? After reinstalling crDriod my phone feels really smooth, and yesterdayI managed to find a zip that fixes yellow tint in camera so I'm reluctant to switch back to MIUI, especially if it's not as smooth as other custom ROMs.

Correct, only user data (TWRP>Advanced Wipe>Format Data Partition>type "yes"

Did you use the NFC fix zip after installing PA4?

I didn't need to flash fix zip on this version of PA (PA4)

Also which version of PA did you use (I'm guessing the newest available PA4 one).

I used the version 4 (more stable, but just to test), the version 5 is the newest but has the bug on NFC that use the fix

Also how do you like MIUI12? Is it as smooth as android 10 custom ROMs?

For now on, it's very stable, smooth, sounds good

Yes it did it!
For me steps were a bit different so I will share them:
-Wipe everything except USB, SDCard
-Format Data
-Reboot Recovery
-Flash PA4 - can't switch NFC in the OS
-Reboot into TWRP, flash the NFC fix zip and MIUI11 (NOT MIUI12) firmware (I'm not sure which one actually fixed NFC)
-Reboot into PA4 - now NFC works
-Flash MIUI.eu 12 over PA4
-Format Data
-NFC can be now switched, when I touch the back of the phone with my card it does the "Can't recognize NFC" sound so it definitely works!
-Now you could probably do a clean flash and still have the NFC working, but everything seems fine after the dirty flash so I see no reason not to do it unless you start getting battery drain issues or something.

NFC Fix File (right click, save link as)
Edit: I tested with NFC tools, NFC succesfully read my debit card!

Thanks you guys to have post this thread, it helped me a lot !
I had the same troubles with NFC.
I installed LineageOS. But I was not very happy with the camera (bad colour balance detection, only the main front camera was working) and also SafetyCheck didn't passed so I couldn't use Google Pay with NFC. So I decided to install back the official Xiaomi ROM MIUI 11.eu and I encountered the same behaviour as you describe : NFC fails to activate.

I did this procedure :
- unlock phone
- restart in fastboot
- intall TWRP
- boot in TWRP (volume up + power button)
- Factory wipe + data wipe
- adb sideload ParanoidAndroid 4 .zip
- start system : NFC does not worked
- adb sideload NFC fix.zip
- start system : NFC does not worked
- adb sideload V11 firmware (V11.0.11.0.PCXEUXM )
- start system : NFC worked !
- Payment in a physical store worked fine.
ParanoidAndroid suited my needs and solved the problem of LineageOS : camera is good, SafetyCheck pass. So I stay with this ROM !

i had once installed PA Dev5 and lost my nfc, fixed it by just clean flashing PA Quartz 4 and then i flashed 12.0.1 from here.

I did try clean flashing PA4, but then NFC didn't work in PA4 (and MIUI). Only after flashing the nfc fix file nfc started working in PA4 and then MIUI after flashing it over PA4.

12.0.1.0.QCXMIXM_v12-10 for redmi note 8t Is realy stable? is it worth switching from the EEA to this one?

It happened to me also. It seems that there's problem with flashing vendor . I have found easy fix if coming back from custom ROMs.

1. Flash stock trough fastboot,
2. Install TWRP and boot it,
3. Wipe vendor
4. Install Xiaomi.eu.
5. Reboot and have fun!

Nah, this didn't work for me... Will try the above and report
Anyone fixed NFC and then clean flashed MIUI 12?

That's strange, because I've tested it twice with two different custom roms and it worked. Which stock did you flashed?

Just found another solution to the problem without flashing any PA build....
1) Reboot on TWRP
2) Wipe System, data, Dalvik cache, cache and vendor
3) Flash latest MIUI 11 firmware (V11.0.11.0.PCXEUXM), can be found here
4) Reboot to fastboot
5) Flash the exact same fastboot ROM (Flash All option, not locking bootloader)
6) Reboot and voila, NFC works

Please, tell me if it works for anyone else
Edit: As it seems, you have to have installed a PA build (preferably Q5 dev) and then begin with the procedure
