Update: I let the phone run out of battery completely, charged it a bit, went into EDL and plugged it back into the PC. Now it shows up in Device Manager as Qualcomm HS-USB Android DIAG 901D. Anything I can do with this? Can I make it go (back) to 9008 from here and finally make this thing work?

Yes, I get to that screen (EDL, right?). But then when I plug it into Mi PC Suite I get the error I posted in the images above. On the English version this doesn't happen and I do not understand Chinese, so I don't know what the error even is.

Did install the ADB drivers and I think they also come with the Mi PC Suite (driver signatures turned off in Windows). Is it possible I have the wrong drivers? If I boot it normally (or in fastboot mode, can't test now) it does show up as Android ADB Device in my computer's device manager...

Not sure that's normal as I haven't got my Redmi 4 Prime to work yet, but my Redmi 3 Pro usually starts with 2GB/2.1GB available. What you can do though is going into the security app and turning off auto-start for any apps you don't want to start on their own and see if that helps a bit.

Thanks for your reply! I used fastboot mode, even though the bootloader was still locked, it did let me flash it. I used the older version of MiFlash 2015.10.28.0. I have since also tried the current XiaomiFlash version from the Xiaomi website, but that gives me a "TZ Error" while re-trying...

Don't quote me on it, but can you not just use the Redmi 3's China Developer ROM? Considering xiaomi.eu also offers a single ROM for both devices.

At the very top of the thread it says "Download Weekly". The stable version does not support it yet as far as I know. Edit; Weird, I don't see ido in the list anymore for the ROM download. It'll probably be back soon.

This ROM (6.4.28 ido) IS for the Redmi 3 Pro, just the standard Redmi 3 has been delayed... Edit; Not sure why it's gone from the download links atm though.

If you go to the Weekly ROM release section and click the latest thread (6.4.28) you will see in the changelog (second post) that they have added fingerprint support for the Redmi 3 Pro. This ROM with support did create issues for the standard Redmi 3, so you should not flash 6.4.28 on that one...
