*22899 *228+ Activation on Verizon Wireless... on the htc Incredible

Does anyone know why *22899 on verizon wirelessdoes not work properly? I know doing *228+ (long press on the number 0) works. Using that method is kind of hit or miss.

Nix said that the tools needed aren't compatible with any aosp rom.
