Contacts Sync No Longer Works

I use Owncloud on my own domain to sync calamders and contacts across devices.

Today I added some contacts on my Redmi2 but noticed they were not syncing to the server.

I deleted the sync account - which deleted all the contacts on the phone, but when I set it up again I find that it is not syncing any more. It goes through the motions with no error messages, but nothing syncs.

This happened after upgrading to 5.8.6

Anyone else having this problem - or have a solution?
