[FEATURE REQUEST] Notification LED alternative

I am using the xiaomi.eu roms for a few years already (Redmi 2, Redmi 3S, Redmi 4X) and I now have a Mi 9 SE, waiting for the unlock period to be over.
One thing I am really missing is the notification LED.
I saw there are some apps available to replace these (eg. Pulse Beat), but they are not working on MIUI.

Is there a way to incorporate a notification led simulator, using the screen or the flash LED, in the xiaomi.eu ROM?

Your view on this would be highly appreciated.

That's a way too complex feature to both code and then maintain in working state. It might not even be possible, I've no idea.

Seems like some people got a workaround using Tasker so the ambient display turns on when there is a notification and off when there are no notifications.

No worries. Thanks for all your efforts and time you put in these ROMs! Can't wait to unlock the bootloader and go to the xiaomi.eu rom
