Getting rid of "fancy" background colors on application icons

Does anyone have any idea how to do that? I've searched the forum and the web and find no mention of this. It really, really bothers me somethin' fierce.

I'm running 2.6.1 ICS on a Galaxy S II.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
