How To Disable Message Acceptance Notification?

Hello all,

On Redmi 3 Pro, each time I send a text message (SMS) I receive a notification/confirmation that the recipient has received the message. While very handy, is there a way to disable this confirmation message or at least mute its sound?

My phone runs Android 5.1.1 LMY47V, MIUI Global 8.0 | (Stable) 8.0.2.0 (LAIMIDG).

Thanks, but could you please be more specific? Which menu on which screen? Are you talking about an option under Settings? My Messages screen just lists messages. There is no menu there. Thanks!

Turn Settings/System apps/Messaging/Additional settings/Read receipts off.

Long press when on messages, then choose options

Thanks for the tip, however on my device this shortcut does not get me to the relevant setting. I have to use the long way suggested by Pertti Kosunen above. i.e., Settings/System apps/Messaging/Additional settings/Read receipts off.
