how to enable more home screens and widgets?

For previous releases, I was able to invoke more home screens and widgets by pressing and holding a blank area on my home screen, and a submenu would appear at the bottom with icons for folders, widgets, etc. I could then add more home pages.

For this 4.8.29 release, the press and hold no longer functions. I cannot add any icons, widgets, screens to my home page. Simple things like a screen shot can no longer be taken. Why ?

THANK YOU ! Solved so simply. Been bugging me for weeks. My ROM is from China (me no speak), so now way for me to comprehend the Chinese user guide loaded in the phone. Me forced to use China rom, as I am connected in China - other rom's no work.
