New Mi5 Miui9 Second Space Home Button

I recently moved to xiaomi.eu from miui global stable and am glad to have done so. However, I use second space often and have found in both 7.7.20 and the just released 7.8.17 that when in second space the home button doesn't work. To clarify, everything is fine in first space so hardware is ok but in second space only long press of the home button works, pressing either lightly or physically depressing the button does nothing. It doesn't matter what app I am in or if I am just in a home screen folder, nothing happens.
This worked in miui global stable.

Any ideas on how to solve?

Ok, this seems to be an issue only when updating an install with an existing second space. For a new install or when creating a new second space after the upgrade it works fine.
