I thought I was imagining this at first, but Xiaomi phones do have pretty bad swipe gesture optimization. That is, when you try to swipe notifications horizontally, phone very often takes this as vertical swipe, which collapses the notification/quick setting panel instead. Compared to any other phone, it's much more difficult to swipe horizontally, and this is pretty annoying considering this is something I do very often during the day. You have to be very precise and make a very horizontal gesture at the beginning of swipe, otherwise it goes vertical almost all the time. I had this with all 4 Xiaomi phones I had in the last month.
