Sim problem w/WCDMA

Hello from Korea,
Has anyone had this problem: WCDMA Hongmi will not recognize a sim card from a WCDMA carrier (KT- Olleh--WCDMA @ 2100 mhz).
I tried updating the rom (to HM20130323) from a .zip using the updater app, but that did not work.
The phone is running 4.2.1 HM2013022 / MIUI-JHACNAH2.0

Any clues to: 1) why it doesn't recognize the sim card, and 2) why it won't flash a new rom from the updater?

Because you don't have WCDMA Hongmi. You have TD model.

Were a batch of the phones mislabeled, then?

Hehe, seems you have fake phone. Sorry. This picture shows wrong naming. HM2013022 is Redmi TD-SCDMA without 3G.
