Stuck at fastboot, can get to TWRP

I installed latest stable MIUI 12 to MI 8 and now on reboot I can only get either to fastboot or to TWRP.
Are there any procedures to try to
a) get into OS
b) do some more wipes to get into OS
c) do a hard reset but retain the unlocked bootloader

The MIUI 12 was an upgrade from MIUI 10 I recall. I wiped Dalvik and cache but noticed that those were wiped again during installation of MIUI 12.
I wasn't using Magisk.

Yes, I ended up doing just that... Then reinstalled MIUI 12 and all is working fine now.
