Just a quick question, since I am new to MIUI.eu, will I be able to update to MIUI 9 from 8 (in the future) via updater package (flashing ROM) similar to OTA of other official ROMs when they upgrade?

yes, when you owning the xiaomi.eu rom you will have always the latest roms till xiaomi.eu update them for the smartphones! Older phones are not supported always so keep that in mind!

PS: global roms(no xiaomi.eu roms) are not the same as xiaomi.eu roms, so its up to en.miui.com if they will support older smartphones as well.

But would we normally be able to just flash it just like an official OTA or would we have to wipe it before upgrading?

Updates go always without wipe data. Downgrade to older version often need wipinig data.

Must update from TWRP recovery on some devices, few devices support update directly from MIUI Updater app (if not chanced recently).

I think you do not understand something?

1. You cannot install a xiaomi.eu Rom without unlocked BL and TWRP

2. All Updates you can run via updater app, NO need to go in TWRP. And the updater app it self goes in TWRP automaticly when you want to update.

Verstuurd vanaf mijn Redmi 3S met Tapatalk

What devices you have tested this? Did not work on Mi4, Redmi 3 and Redmi Note 3 last i tested (all unrooted). Also reboot to recovery from Updater app did not work.

Its logical when you do not have an unlocked bootloader and installed TWRP and you want to try a xiaomi.eu rom that you do not come in the TWRP boot!

PS:But when you have a unlocked bootloader and having TWRP installed. And you use the xiaomi.eu rom + updater app you will come in the TWRP recovery.

For all the xiaomi.eu roms you need a unlocked bootloader and TWRP installed if you want to update. If you are stuck on global rom you can go to en.miui.com that is your place to be than!!!!

All this is covered in the notes on the ROM download page, take time to read instead of posting first please.

My bad. I had skipped reading the info for the upgrading of Android version for the MI5. I assume it would just be a similar process.
