Just wondering how this works. I am about to buy a phone that is in the funded list. I am happy to pay the price to install it. However I am wondering if this will be the case everytime there is an update / security update to the phone. Will I have to pay $10 a month to continue getting updates?

Don't tell nonsense. Instead try to read. You don't have to subscribe a full year. You can pay for a month, unsubscribe and subscribe later again, if you want.

What nonsense are you talking about. If you want xiaomi.eu ROM for free, don't buy a device with MediaTek SoC.
The rules for providing xiaomi.eu ROM are clearly stated on this forum.
You are the one who should adapt, not the xiaomi.eu ROM developers.

Without the Patreon, ROM by us wouldn't exist for any MTK, and then you wouldn't even have anything to complain about.
