...I am a newbie here please help me out - "How can I update a FAKE HONGMI to latest MIUI version??"
Thanks.
Steps sound fine. After trying to install did you look at the log in CWM? There is an entry like Show log.1.Install MobileUncle apk
2.Install CWM Recovery recovery.img ( English CWM version 5.5.0.4 no touch)
3. Boot to CWM , Wipe Data/factory reset , Wipe cache partition, Wipe Dalvik cashe , Install zip from sdcard
4. Select zip from internal SD
Start
- Installing: /sdcard/ miuiandroid_multi_HM2013023_WCDMA_JHBCNAL5.0_jb-4.2.zip
Finding update package…
Opening update package….
Installing update…
Installation aborted.
and finish in 2 or 3 seconds (Also tried with or without signature verification).
Did I miss something? Is it possible to update this phone and how?

On my PC I can open the zip file and seems OK. The CWM log says:Steps sound fine. After trying to install did you look at the log in CWM? There is an entry like Show log.
Was the zip file valid? Try to open the zip to see if it is valid.
On my PC I can open the zip file and seems OK. The CWM log says:
init.svc.adbd=resterting
sys.usb.state=mass_storage.adb
I:Checking for extendcommand....
I:Skipping executionof extendcommand. file not found....
These logs are fine, just I for information, no real errors.
It looks that you have the phone connected via USB during this.
I normally have my phone disconnected from PC during installation but I am not sure if this helps.
Did you check the logs directly after trying to install?
You did everything well it should have worked just fine.
Try installing an older version to see what happens
By the way, is it normal to have photos I taken in the internal memory after wipe data/factory reset ?
Yes, because the photos are stored on the SD card, not internally.
I have only one more idea:
Others were successful with TWRP recovery, check earlier in this thread.
This would also be my last guess before setting up from scratch with FlashTool. Is there any chance you have a fake hongmi?

Please post some screenshots from MobileUncle tools -> Device Info
Ok, no fake. But your Android version is strange: 4.2.1, HongMi is on 4.2.2.
Looks like you have a ported Developer ROM from another device installed.
Did you install this or was it installed when you bought it?
Check this thread carefully

I think the best solution is to follow the sp flash tool guide..

It was allready installed (with root ) from merimobiles when I bought it.
Later today I will try the SP flash tool.
Thank you.
