There is no thread about this great smartphone...

I have one and I really like it, but I would like to have my language (portuguese) and the option to select my country as location (Portugal). Unfortunatly there are no such options in the global ROM...

Is there going to be a custom ROM for it?

At this point the answer is no...because of the partition tables being different...
I am thinking of buying an A1...I like the idea of 100% google device...but at the same time I love MIUI...A few questions about the A1...
How does it interact with Xiaomi...for instance...Mi Cloud...Mi Account...Mi Mover... Find My Device...SMS requests sent to Xiaomi ...etc. etc.
It obviously is tied directly to Google for OTA updates...does it also interact with Xiaomi ? Very Curious...

This is actually my first xiaomi device, so I don't have any experience with the xiaomi services or MIUI, and therefore I cannot compare experiences.

I have to say that the purchase decision was based on the combination of the design/specs/price of the device along with the reputation that the brand have been creating along the last few years.

Knowing that there is an active community around these devices also helped.

This is actually my backup smartphone right now (I have a galaxy S6) but I intend to dump the samsung (the autonomy really sucks) and use the xiaomi as my main smartphone.

I will then post my experience with it and it's relation with xiaomi services...

As far as I know, there are no xiaomi services in the A1, but probably you will be able to install them or part of them.

As for the OTA updates, they will not come from google, but from xiaomi, so you will have to wait untill they have the firmware ready for this device before updating, and that will take some time after the oficial release from google.

Yes, looks like the "Mi ecosystem" in the A1 is limited to a feedback app and Mi Remote. I can't find a "Mi account" anywhere or any reference to it. Not that it bothers me, we can't miss something we never had...

The UI is simple and smooth, and for the pure android lovers will be a good experience.

Then there must be some Xiaomi Services on the device...if the updates are to be pushed by Xiaomi and not Google...correct me if I am wrong please......

The only way to have those services at this moment is by installing the app, using a third party appstore, because they aren't avaliable in the google playstore. Other way, is installing a MIUI firmware, but that way, you will lose de point of buying the A1, and you should have bought the redmi note 4x, as they have the same specs, except for the camara.

I haven't bought a phone yet...just trying to obtain more information about this phone since it is the first 100% Google phone Xiaomi has made available...Its a unique marriage Xiaomi and Google...I love MIUI... and a Xiaomi device with Google as the OS is very interesting indeed.....I do plan to buy a MiA1 and a Mi5x later this year while in the USA.....

You are not considering the design, and that is a huge factor to consider when byuing a phone. I must admit that the note 4x doesn't attract me much...

Just recently have my Mi A1. It's basically a Mi 5x stripped with MIUI, you'll get the stock Android Experience. But you'll get Xiaomi apps like Mi Feedback, Mi Remote, Mi Camera and the Mi Store app, depending your region, the latter can be found out of the box. The Mi Camera App is what the Mi A1 comes with as the official camera app for the device as it supports dual camera features unlike the stock Google camera app.

Android updates for the Mi A1 is not as you might have expect for an AndroidOne device, with the Mi A1, updates are handled by Xiaomi Servers, the reason behind this could be the fact that it comes with Xiaomi Exclusive apps. But Google promised a 2 year update cycle for the Mi A1 with two major updates coming. One would be the Oreo update which will roll out later this year and the Android P next year.

So far my experience with the Mi A1 returns positive, the device works great and didn't notice any lag at all...

To me the 5X is the A1 with added miui . From what I can see it doesn't share the design characteristics of the Mi 5 series - I reckon they put it together principally for Androidone , then gave it the miui treatment so as not to waste their efforts / get some sales . I like the look of both phones , not criticising either , but to me it would have made more sense to base Mi A1 on Redmi 4 or Redmi Note 4 as they have been available for some time and sales had probably peaked - now Xiaomi has to somehow shoehorn Redmi Note 5 in somewhere- you would expect a newer processor and improved camera , and if that happens it can only undermine Mi 5X , which after all is a Mi , therefore ' flagship ' device.

Hi, just got a A1, haven't even unboxed it yet, what is the easiest way to transfer all my data from my MIUI phone (Redmi PRO). Does Mi Mover work in this case or is a 3rd party app that would made transition easier?

Well, I have moved from a samsung galaxy s6 to the A1 which is now my main phone.

I have used "easy backup" to save and restore my sms's and call history, and that's about it, because my contacts are synched with google, whatsapp has the ability to backup to Drive, and all the apps are automatically installed if you have them synced too.

Use the cloud to your own benefit. Is the best way to change phones and keep everything at the fingertip...

On another note, oh boy what a difference... I was struggling to get to the end of a work day (10 hours) with a battery charge and no more than 1 to 1.5 houres of screen time, now I get 2 full days and 4 to 5 houres of screen time.

The phone is fast and navigation is super smooth.

The only downside from my perspective is the size of the phone, but this comes from a guy that was used to a 5.1 inch phone that was easily operated with one hand, and I find it difficult to do it with the A1. I believe it is just a matter of time until I get used to it.

For those who don't like the fingerprint sensor on the back, I would also like to let you know that the smart lock face recognition works like a charm (even in low light), and that is a great, because you can unlock it easily when the phone is on a table or on a car craddle without having to pick it up and touch the fingerprint sensor (wich by the way is much better than the samsung's).

I switched from mi4c to mi5x and my Pro is exceptional build quality, battery Backup up to 2days with 8h SOT, Audioquality (although no DAC), Screen and portrait cam. Negative is only the little bit weaker signal receiption and slower ac wlan 433 MBit without 2x2 mu mimo (866 mi4c) .For around 200 € a great Deal and my first 5.5 Zoll test.

Just a little follow up that I need to share...
WOW for the noise cancellation microfone!
I was at a party with very loud music when I received a call. I thought that I wouldn't be able to listen to anything and the other part wouldn't listen anything I say. I was completely wrong, it was a perfect clear conversation.
