A simple update guide for xiaomi M2

But Klotzi, why not Miui 3.1.11? It's newer.

EDIT: @ Gatun: after installing a ROM with the updater app, it always asks you to the partition in which you just installed the ROM.

Ok, but for flashing GApps and Language Pack, I must first reboot where I just flash the Rom (system 1) and then come back to system 2 for flash them or I can flash GApps and Language on reboot direcly on system 2?

Actually I have never flashed either of those two things as I am fine with English. So I can't help you there, sorry.

@Staalborstel:

3.1.11 wasn't released at the time of that post. The guide basically applies to whatever ROM is the newest at the time.

Just make sure that the version numbers of the ROM, the GApps and the Language Pack match.

@gatun:

It doesn't matter which system you're on. Just follow the guide, the MI2 determines automatically where to put the files.

So:
ROM
Reboot
GApps
Reboot
Language Pack
Reboot

Thank you Klotzi. Another question: after that, when come out the new release (the weekly one) I just follow the guide starting from system partition one or I must reboot in recovery, reboot in system partition 2 and flash new rom? I ask you because, if I understand, when flash rom with Update app it will flash in the other system partition, right? And what I must wipe? Only the cache?

No wipe, no system switching. Just download the new ROM, put it on your MI2, follow the update in the guide.

are you sure about that ? because Updater app always put the files in the system partition which is not in use and then reboot to newer (just updated) partition so let say i am using partition 1 so when i use updater to install ROM it will modify system two and when i reboot then i will be in partition two. then when i install the gapps using updater it will go to partition 1 (which is not in use but ROM was installed in System 2) which i dont want !!!! So please confirm

Hey hadron thank you for joining this question. How you flash rom? With 2nd method? By MiRecovery?

I use the updater app and then reboot to the partition which is just updated and then install the Play store and Gtalk(can get from any JLB gapps zip) like normal app. i use english so dont need the language pack !

And when is available the new weekly rom you come back to the first partition and than use update app, right? Or flash to other partition so you have 2 weekly rom (1 new and one old 1 week )?

in terms of space, does it matter if i flash each week from system 1 to system 2 (and vice versa) with updater app,
or always override my current system1 with recovry flash,
so that i avoid having two roms at the same time, thus earning 0.5gig ?

I have installed all ROMS / LPs as described and it works perfectly fine for me *shrugs*

@hadron thanx for the post; used the Updater method and now I have both the stable OTA JLB7.0 and MIUI 3.1.11 running seamlessly.

You cant gain any space. What ever method you use it stays same

a minor question,
i flashed miui 3.1.11 from both recovery and updater, so its in both systems now
im booted from system1,
now i want to flash the lang & gapps, how do i do it?
because, to my understanding, if i flash from system1 rom, it goes to system2,
so i need to go recovery for it?

or was i supposed to open updater -> flash rom -> flash gapps -> flash lang pack
all at the same time, and only then, reboot to system2?

You do not need to flash gapps. They are included in the Mi2 ROM. To flash the Lang pack to system 1 download the Lang pack rename the zip to update.zip place it root of sdcard and flash with recovery.

I received mine yesterday from merimobiles. Everything seems tha it is the original. It has recovery mode with language select, Antutu gives me 20918 score and recognizeis it as xiaomi, Quick system info pro gives me the right results so i guess its original.
When i tried to do the OTA upgrade to JLB10 while it seems to download a 60MB file when it starts t do the upgrade it stops at around 12% and gives me some errors about the contacts.apk. I tried that 2-3 times and always the same happened. I started downloading the complete ROM from Xiaomi (about 350 MB) to try that to.
Do you know how can I override this mistake? Any other ideas?

I've just tried it and can report the following:
Flashing 3.1.19 via Updater App from Sys1
-> Reboot to Sys2
Flashing Lang pack via Updater App from Sys2
-> Reboot to Sys1

Ergo: Updater App seems to flash at least the lang pack like the full rom to the not active partition.

So if we want to have installed both rom and lang pack in the same partition we should:

1-Flashing rom via updater app
2-Reboot (to partition 2, where the new rom should be flashed)
3-Reboot to partition 1 via recovery
4-Flash lang pack via updater app (from partition 1, so it should flash partition 2)

Am I correct?

If one need language files, i find the updater useless.
its easier to just flash rom in recovery to system1, then flash lang files after boot, again to system1

Well, it can be useful if u want to flash partition 2

For me it just works to install the ROM with the Updater app, then the langauge pack with the Updater app aswell. I don't really care about which partition it installs to, as long as it works.

Hi
Can someone tell me what i shall do to install Google Play Store on my Xioami M2?
When I load it down from the Market and try to start it it`s crash!
