In December i bought a RMN2 from Pandawill, and it came with a Xiaomi.EU ROM installed. All was great, the sun was shining and birds were tweeting. The ROM got a very high score on Antutu (56.000) and i was pleased... but then, after a while i noticed i couldn't install certain apps (such as the Nintendo Mitomo app which would not start). Then i got ad popups on my phone.

After doing virus checks and running malwarebytes etc, there was always one app that could not be removed (a wheather app which came pre-installed on the ROM and remained after reset to factory). Since i could never completely remove the trojan, i decided to check for a different ROM. But since my MiRecovery would not accept ANY ROM (not even the official global ROMs from Xiaomi), i decided to install a global ROM through Mi Flash. This worked... and the shady app was no longer present... but ofcourse there was no language support, my country (Belgium) wasn't even an option in the locale settings. Personally, i don't mind English, but it's easy that the GPS etc settings are optimized for your own country, so i want to install a EU ROM again. However, the Nintendo Mitomo app, does work flawlessly on the Global ROM! Why won't it work on the EU ROM?

What i would like now is to run a EU ROM, but still be able to install any app without it being "rejected" as "rooted" even though my phone was NOT rooted. So the problem is now that i can not install anything (the Mirecovery never worked and gave error messages with any update i tried). So i finally tried to instal TWRP through fastboot. The CMD on my laptop said everything was ok... but when i tried to boot to recovery... it was still mirecovery. Is my phone locked now? I tried applying at miui. com/unlock but now i have to wait for DAYS before i "maybe" can unlock my phone (if that was the problem at all). That means i have to go through the trouble of reinstalling everything just for a couple of days, before i have to do it again, or not have anything installed for nearly 10 days.

After hours of wasting time trying to install anything using the Mirecovery (everything "failed"), after trying to fight malware on the phone, after having to figure out tutorials trying to install different ROMS, including Mi Flash, PC Suite, Fastboot, CMD... how clean the front camera from dust, and still not being finished getting the phone to work like i want it to, i'm growing more and more frustrated with this phone, which is a shame because it's a good phone.

So a few questions:

  1. Is there any way to speed up the process of unlocking?
  2. How come i had a EU ROM pre-installed while still having the Mirecovery and not TWRP which is needed to install a EU ROM?
  3. Why is there ad/mal/spy ware on EU ROMS?????
  4. Why do certain apps not work on EU ROMS but work on Global (official)?
  5. Why does Xiaomi not verify the EU ROMS, so they can be offered as TRUE global (or at least EU) ROMS on their own site, and people not having to go through unlocking and installing a different recovery?
  6. I want a EU ROM (with language, locale, good speed & battery) but WITHOUT ad/mal/spy ware included. While being able to run any app on it (like Mitomo) just like on the global ROM. Is this at all possible, without having to resort to rooting in order to delete trojans and install something to hide the ROM from being rooted so that every app would just work normally?

Thanks for any help!

I downloaded it from the link on the "6.5.26 - Last Miui 7!" topic. It doesn't say which version it is. I used the "Hermes" version. If this is not the correct version, which is? (And where can i find it, so it is compatible with my phone).

Am i understanding correctly, that i should try to use an older TWRP for this? (Because most info i find is for version 3.x.x.x).

But now the phone is locked?
When you've installed TWRP,... you did 90% of the work :)

I don't know if TWRP is installed correctly. I used the guide on this forum (using ADB, CMD, Fastboot). The CMD said everything was succesful, but after booting to recovery, it was still MiRecovery, and not TWRP... So i guess not?

Months ago I used the 2.8.7.0, it worked great.
Later when you install the ROM European, you also have the TWRP included and your 2.8.7.0 is automatically replaced

The only version i see on that site for RMN2 is 3.0.2.0 and not the version you mentioned. If it doesn' t have to be that exact version, then why didn't it work with the version i used from the other topic?

Also, will there be malware apps on the EU ROM and will it run apps like the Global ROM?

The latest Global ROM, official.

http://en.miui.com/download-274.html#430

Because the Mi-Recovery didn't accept any ROM (not even official ROM) and only gave errors, i installed one through Mi PC Suite, but that one was a Chinese Stable Rom, and after that i installed the latest Global Stable ROM through Mi Flash.

I can not understand why with adb will not install TWRP! with adb you find your phone?

I followed the guide on this forum. Yes, it finds my phone, Mi PC suite also recognizes my phone, Mi Flash also. So the drivers should be ok. Installed ADB with flashboot, run CMD as administrator, and the CMD says everything worked ok! But when i reboot to recovery, it's still Mi-Recovery.

I send you a guide in Italian, then translate, ok?

I'm pretty sure i'm doing everything correctly.

So... this is why i asked if my phone was locked now, and if i needed to unlock it (which takes up to 10 days?).
