[ultimate Guide] How To Unlock Bootloader, Root And Flash Recovery On Redmi Note 3

Guys, being diamond member on miui forums gives you unlock permission or it doesn't, and apply for unlock is also needed?

Another thing, why is Mi unlock tool saying "your device isn't supported"? I have redmi 3 linked and fully activated to mi account, running latest china dev ROM. Tool always gives that message and redirects me to unlock site.
It's bit strange to me, because my friend has rn3 and fresh mi account(also activated, but really new account) and Mi unlock tool is giving message he doesn't have unlock qualifications. It's the way it shoud be, but why am i getting device not supported message? Anyone has any idea or advice?

I succesfully unlocked the bootloader (after have waited for xiaomi permission) but after i flash your patched TWRP recovery and try to acces it (volume up + power) it goes in Xiaomi recovery. Is it possible? i read somewhere that i should delete the file "recovery-from-boot.p" . Is it safae to do?
Same problem here. Did you do it?

The opening post should be edited because what it states is not true and is misleading the readers...

I have bought a Redmi Note 3 thinking that I could unlock it immediately, just to find out that it is not true... I have to wait for Xiaomi authorization.. If I know that it would be sitting on my desk 2 weeks I would have bought something else...

Hello all

Hey,
I have global stable ROM then should i download china developers ROM then go through the procedure or i should download the global developers rom

I have Redmi note 3 pro (Snapdragon) with globally stable ROM Pre-instaled

Hi to everybody.
After install the developer rom 6.4.7,finally could get to unlock the bootloader.
After that, i install the trwp like mentioned on the first post, but i only can get in to the trwp by software. Pushing Vol. Up and power, nothing happens. Does anyone happens the same?
Regards

Please help me, well to be precise, my father. :) I bought a Redmi Note 3 (Hennessy) for him, however we need the multilanguage ROM, because the ROM it shipped with is half English, half Hungarian (I donw't know how). It's on 7.0.919.0 Stable, but even through the Updater app, it won't flash the DEV ROM (miui_HMNote3_6.3.24_41002e2ea6_5.0.zip) donwloaded from the official site, I get this message:
View attachment 11798
After this, I read thet the MiFlashUnlock can now unlock even being on Stable ROM, so I tried that as well, but at 50%, it says it can't verify the phone (I don't have the English screenshot atm).

ADB drivers seem to be OK as it lists it after adb devices, however, when I reboot to fastboot, the RMN3 vanishes. Is this normal?

I am totaly out of ideas, any suggestions how I can unlock the bootloader to be able to flash the multi rom? Maybe I can flash the DEV ROM with MiFlash?

Any advice would be very appriciated!

Hello I had tre same problem.

You are on some reseller installed rom, and they are hard to gået rid of.
Follow this tutorial: http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

Be sure to be on a newer windows pc and follow the guide step by step.
That did the trick for me.

I failed to mention that we have the MTK 3GB version, not the Pro variant. Will this method work with this version?

Unlock Bootloader

You can easily unlock your Bootloader with the following procedure. You dont need to apply for any Unlock Code or other stuff.

REQUIREMENTS:
-- RedMi Note 3
-- Developer ROM installed (stable will not work !!!)
-- working MI-Account (verified and SIM CARD activated)
-- Unlocking Software ( get it here )

  1. Start your Phone running a developer ROM
  2. Proceed through the Setup Wizard
  3. Connect your Phone to your verified Mi-Account (Settings -> Accounts)
  4. Login to i.mi.com and make sure that your new RedMi Note 3 is connected to that Account. (It appears that it only works when you connected a SIM-Card/Phone Number to your Account - Can be from another phone but your Account must be linked to a SIM-Card.)
  5. Reboot your Phone to Fastboot Mode (Power + volume down)
  6. Connect your Phone via USB to your Computer
  7. Start the MiFlashUnlock.exe (find the link at REQUIREMENTS)
  8. Click the left Button (chinese text)
  9. Login with your Mi-Account you used to link your new Phone
  10. Press the Button with chinese Text and watch the show
  11. Your Bootloader is unlocked when the progressbar shows 100%.
  12. Reboot your phone.

Flash TWRP Recovery
You will need the TWRP recovery to root your device. Further you will be able to install Custom ROMs (like sMiUI) on your device.
I have linked an existing TWRP Image made by a guy called "cloud". Unfortunately he still had a bug in his version which cancelled ROM installations for the RedMi Note 3! I patched the TWRP Image and fixed this bug. So you will find a fully working TWRP Image in the Requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:
-- RedMi Note 3
-- Unlocked Bootloader (see above)
-- TWRP Image File ( DOWNLOAD )
-- Fastboot Binaries (you can find a fastboot.exe in the Unlocking Software ZIP)

  1. Boot your Phone to Fastboot Mode (Power + volume down)
  2. Connect your Phone via USB to your Computer
  3. Start a windows terminal in the directory where your patched TWRP Image and Fastboot exe is located.
  4. type "fastboot flash recovery TWRP_redminote3_patchedBySebsch1991.img"
  5. Wait for the process to finish
  6. type "fastboot reboot"
  7. After your system comes up you can reboot to Recovery mode (Power + volume up)
  8. Enjoy your fully working TWRP Recovery

Enable ROOT Access

REQUIREMENTS:
-- RedMi Note 3
-- SuperSU Zip-File ( DOWNLOAD )

  1. Download the SuperSU Zip-File and copy it on your Phone
  2. Boot your Phone to Recovery Mode (Power + volume up)
  3. Chose "INSTALL"
  4. Chose the downloaded SuperSU Zip-File
  5. Wait for installation process to finish
  6. Reboot your Device
  7. Enjoy rooted RedMi Note 3!
Check out www.smiui.net for a pre-rooted ROM with many other Features! (redmi note 3 version coming soon)
Will work on redmi 3 pro (not note 3) or not?

Thanks for the answer. I had to install a different version of the recovery. Now it works like a charm. Thanks anyway for your answer. If anyone is having the same problem I'll gladly post my recovery.

please can i have the file thanks

I did everything like in the tutorial, flashed to china dev rom, download unlock program, process was OK, reboot now button appeared and everything looks OK, but after installing TWRP (kenzo for RN3Pro, installed via fastboot or flashyfi) I cannot enter recovery. I have the screen as in attachment. Peaople are telling me, that bootloader is not unlocked, even thou I hadn't any problems with unlocking. Any idea what is wrong?

EDIT: I tried to unlock my device again and I have this: "Coudn't veryfiy device. No unlock needed on the device". Do I have an unlock or not? Why such a problem with TWRP then?

My family (Sister and Mother) have the hennessy (MTK) variant of Redmi Note 3.
I would like to install xiaomi.eu rom for their phones.

Does this guide still apply or is it outdated?

Both phones are on china stable roms still but I have applied for my mothers bootloader unlock code and still waiting for it until I do anything.

Thanks.

Can I flash the TWRP recovery on a bricked phone? I can access the fastboot.

I was thinking to flash the TWRP recovery and then flash a ROM. Will this be possible you guys think?

Do you have official rom or a vendor rom?
Unlock bootloader works on china dev rom and/or china stable rom only if I remember correctly.
