[MI8 - dipper] MIUI Camera vs BSG *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* Port

Hi, I'm on last Havoc for Mi8.
The best configuration for *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* is still that of the first post?
Thanks!
Hi, yes it's still the one ;-)

Thanks!
Are you using the *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* stock in Havoc or another version?
I use latest *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* port by BSG, see the link in first post ;-)

I'm preparing a similar review for my chanel on youtube but my conclutions aren't the same. I find HDR more deep in Miui's cam and the portrait mode in rear camera is not working whit *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum*. The only one point i find better in pixel camera is the nigth mode.
Great review mate.

I always carry both cameras, and in both the rear cameras work in a similar way, some case stock do a great work. Only when I'm going to use the front camera, they have a lot of advantage in *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum*.

[MI8 - dipper] MIUI Camera vs BSG *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* Port

My configuration :
- Hardware : Mi8
- Software : HavocOS (link)
- MIUI Camera : ANX MIUI Camera v7 (Magisk module) (01/25/2019) (link)
- Google Pixel Camera : BSG *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* Port (12/30/2018) (link) (BSG's config : link)

Personal favourite : BSG *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* Port

My thoughts so far :
  • Details : Google (on most shots)
  • Night Mode : Google (by far)
  • Portrait Mode : Google (details + blur + colors)
  • Colors : None (customizable)
  • HDR : Google (because MIUI's HDR also use a post-process effect that shrinks the dynamic range, and reduces the amount of details)
  • Optical zoom : MIUI
Remarks :
  • HDR+ Enhanced takes more time and requires to hold the phone steady when taking the picture, but it is very helpful in some particular cases
  • You can adjust the smoothness of the picture on portrait mode, in both apps
  • Don't be afraid to use the flash for indoor pictures, it gives a white lighting, and thus a better white balance
  • MIUI's HDR seems to use a post-process effect that actually shrinks the dynamic range
  • Use jpeg quality of 80% (medium), you will divide the weight of the image by 4, with no visible loss of quality
  • Both apps have optical zoom. On *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum*, activate "add AUX to camera switch" (in BSG MOD Settings), then double tap on the camera switch button to activate the zoom
  • Optical zoom is ineffective, or even worse when light is to lack

I'm considering a Mi 8 and it's really encouraging that *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* works so well on it. I have a few questions, since I'm a quality freak :)
-How many images can it handle for an hdr? Afaik the default is 8, the pixel 3 uses 15, and you can set it up to 36.
-Does raw work with hdr+ enhanced and night sight?
-Can you post some raw images as well? If it works, with the aformentioned modes
-If I understood right, you can use the telephoto camera with *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* with no downsides (other than the small pixels of course, so compared to the miui cam). I didn't really understand it's ineffectiveness you mentioned :)
few questions about the portrait mode:
-Does it work with both tele and wide cameras?
-Does it have to digitally zoom in or can you use the default FOV for the given cam?

@stema84
I can only advise you to buy this Mi8, it is such a good phone for the price :D HavosOS ROM is awesome, we have a very dedicated developer :)

From 2 to 36 frames, you have to set a minimum and a maximum value.
-Does raw work with hdr+ enhanced and night sight?
RAW works with HDR+ Enhanced. It does not work with Night Sight.
-Can you post some raw images as well? If it works, with the aformentioned modes
I can't, they are too heavy. And I don't see the point ^^
-If I understood right, you can use the telephoto camera with *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* with no downsides (other than the small pixels of course, so compared to the miui cam). I didn't really understand it's ineffectiveness you mentioned :)
It works well, the zoom is just less than MIUI's, which is x2.
few questions about the portrait mode:
-Does it work with both tele and wide cameras?
Not sure what are tele and wide cameras, but zoom works on portrait mode.
-Does it have to digitally zoom in or can you use the default FOV for the given cam?
You can disable the digital zoom that is activated by default.

Yes you can swap between normal and Tele lens in *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* with the correct version by pressing front/back toggle twice in quick succession

thx for the quick reply!
-Is the mi8 able to process even with the 36 frames? the note8 we tried crached above 15 and took forever even for that.
-I mainly shoot raw, so that is the paint, I would like to see what I can bring out of it in lightroom, and I only found 1 mi 8 *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* raw so far.
-tele is the 56mm ("2x zoom"), and wide is the standard main lens (~26-28mm). but you ansered my question :)

thanks for the answers so far :)

I will say though that the Tele lens isn't very useful in *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum*. There doesn't appear to be any ois/Eis.
Normal lens with digital zoom makes much better pictures

I just tried a shot in my room, with min 36 and max 36 frames, and it worked just fine.
What is the advantage of shooting in raw then? Because I get a perfect quality with jpeg, the only limit is the sensor and the noise.

I can't find such setting inside BSG mod settings. Which version do you use? I'm using MGC_6.1.021_F1_V1.7.apk on my Mi Mix 2s. Maybe it can't detect the Tele camera ony none MIUI ROMS.

EDIT: It works in MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V2e+ !!! Thanks BTW for that info! With that now I will stick with this *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* Version.
Where Is V2e+?

Sol I tried RAW shots outdoor today, and the result was ugly. Picture is not that heavy (10MP), but with some kind of blur that looks like a heavy lossy compression.
Anyone having the same issue?

Hey there, I'm really new at miui and this mi 8 is going to be my first xiaomi cellphone. I purchased it from aliexpress as a global version, and as a photography enthusiast I like to know if I need to flash the rom or stay as it comes and use *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum*, I know there should be. A lot of info out there but I think you guys are the most interested on this stuff. Thanks and sorry for the english

In my opinion, you should really switch to HavocOs anyway, I personnaly really dislike MIUI and I don't know if *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* works on it. There should not be any difference between MIUI and Havoc concerning photo quality, only the app should make a difference :)

I was able to install *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* on Android 9 just like any other app and it's really awesome, specially on the low light and selfies.

So now my question is this, when I use the front camera it always puts in a mirror effect,is there anyway to change that? And also *no-support-for-this-app-on-this-forum* says the front camera is only 5 mpx when should be 20.

Please check if that's happens with you too.
