Having seen some MIUI 12 reviews on YT, does this rom seems more focused on the aesthetic side of things than the functional (vs miui 11)? Cool animations & graphics at the expense of battery life for example. I presume these animations can be turned off? I ask this because no.1 priority for me over anything else in a rom is battery life. Thoughts?

20.5.7 is a very bad rom. i do not advice you to download it. touch and screen freezes frequently. especially opening and closing times of the apps.

Did you try format data in twrp(were you type YES to confirm) and reboot to recovery do factory reset,flash new rom

Me too.
(1- Some apps, with gestures dont work. Specially bank apps in my case, as fast as i opened them, they freeze and dont respond to touch. )

It is a problem with floating window feature, tha bank app, is incompatible

I answer myself:
CONFIRMED!
Everything works fine by disabling gestures (bank app)
