googling around I have found this. it's meant for MIUI 6, don't know if the path to that setting is still the same on latest MIUI. you can give it a try, tho.

no. custom recovery only.

now that you have unlocked your bootloader, you can push the TWRP via fastboot. then from TWRP, you can flash anything you like.
