Well, I don't have any problem like this on the current version on any of my 3 devices (Mix1, Max1 helium, Note 2) , but I did have something similar on a few previous versions.

But it was easy to fix, as it was the "Media" system app that was eating battery and processor time for no reason.
It was listed separately from the "Android system" stuff, so I just deleted its data and did a force close on it a couple of times, and the problem disappeared.
I don't have media app... I have cleaned cache and dalvik in twrp and it seems to have solved the problem. At least for now

[Mi6]
After updating from 8.8.30 to 8.9.6, the stock applock of my Mi6 keeps crashing, preventing many apps to open. It says "Unfortunately, key_network_assistant keeps stopping". When I check, the Security/Authenticator app has been renamed as "key_network_assistant".

Hi I am using Wayne 8.9.6 on MI6X, I am also using Wayne TWRP, this TWRP is not permanent and must use Fastboot each time. Can someone give me a link for a permanent TWRP ZIP file so that I can install it after I install the ROM.
Many thanks

The 8.9.6 firmware for Mi5 was withdrawn by the Chinese in view of the detection of critical errors. They also reported that the update for the Mi5 is delayed. To what extent - the Chinese do not report. Team Xiaomi.EU works on the basis of Chinese firmware. And, if there is no Chinese new version - there is not even in Xiaomi.EU
The question is how long to wait? it makes sense to ask Chinese developers, not here ...

Why is my Mi Note 3 having the last 4 cores being active at 1133mhz while i am not doing anything much except chrome? Also the charging temperature is 40deg. Is this normal?
The last four cores are part of the high performance cluster of Snapdragon 660 - this is the base frequency of this cores and is normal. While charging the device from e.g. 20% to 100 the battery temperature can increase up to 40 degree - it is not normal if it is running at this temperature all the time.

Thank you sir, really informative. Blown my mind
