Can I flash latest ROM as an update without losing data?

When I use the MIUI updater app on my phone it tells me I'm already up to date even though I have version MIUI 8.8.24 for Mi 8 and the latest version should be 8.9.24 for Mi 8. If I download the latest ROM and flash it using TWRP will I lose my data (like my photos, installed apps, settings, etc)? How can I flash without losing personal data and apps?

Haz una copia de seguridad a full desde el twrp antes de actualizar por seguridad.

Haz tambien una copia de seguridad de datos y aplicaciones sigue este hilo, lo explico, es muy fácil,

Y luego actualiza, en teoría la actualización no afecta a aplicaciones, ni a configuraciones, pero por seguridad, siempre haz un backup.

Since you are using TWRP to flash the rom-update, just wipe cache and dalvik after the process. This way you are preserving the internal storage where your data (pics, docs, apps data, etc) reside. Do not wipe any other partition.
