Is Boot Loader Unlock Allowed?

Hi - I have read conflicting stories about XIAOMI not allowing unlock for Mi 5x boot loader ? Is this correct ?
I am about to buy a Mi 5x but will not if I am unable to unlock the boot loader.

U can unlock it now but be careful where u buy your phone. If u buy it with original rom all good, but if u buy it with fake rom u will brick your phone when u unlock it.
