Mi 9 SE Bluetooth poor audio dynamic

Audio via Bluetooth from Mi 9 SE has very poor quality - it seems that volume is automatically normalized - sound has very low dynamics. Volume strongly decreases when the music goes loud and vice-versa. Definitely it's a phone problem. Connected to a Bluetooth amplifier plays the same poor way, headphones connected to a computer play well.

If I use wired headphones, the sound is proper, with good dynamics. I have revised Bluetooth developer options - none of them fixed the problem (including turning on the 'Disable absolute volume').

How to fix the problem?

The problem may be related to SBC codec. In both cases - playing on headphones and on Yamaha amplifier this codec was used. Playing on other headphones using another codec was proper. Nevertheless I haven't found any way to change the codec on Mi True Wireless Earbuds.

Bluetooth audio goes digitally to your headphones. The problem is the bluetooth DAC converter that is poor. Try a different bluetooth receiver/headset. I have used Xiaomi mi bluetooth receiver with wired headphones and it has a very good sound, althoug on SBC. I used also ugreen aptx bluetooth adapter(good with my headphones) and mpow cheetah with aptx codec(not very good with low frequencies).

It doesn't seem to be a headphones issue. Once again: headphones connected to other device play well, whereas phone connected to another device still plays with poor dynamics.

same here on 21.3.5 on different bluetooth audio. Disabling absolute volume toggle on bluetooth audio device settings page little helps

It's not xiaomi.eu problem. I've tested all android 11 roms and all of them has the same issue. Tried all codecs, magisk fx modules, libs etc. nothing worked. Went back on android 10, no more bluetooth audio issues. Also some pixel and samsung users had the same problem, propably fixed in ota, idk.

After upgrade to MIUI 12.5.1/Android 11 RKQ it appears an additional Bluetooth option "Absolute volume": "Keep the volume of Bluetooth devices and the phone strictly consistent". After turning it off, sound quality improves.
