Multilanguage and stable rom

My 13 year old boy will get a new mobile phone as a christmas present. He initially wantet s4 mini/htc one mini, but since the mi2s is more powerful and cheaper I've ordered the Xiaomi. His english still isn't that good so I'll install a mulitilanguage rom since the stock rom isn't available in Norwegian.

I'll probably install two roms, one on each system. Weekly updates isn't necessary. I just want him to have a troublefree and stable rom. Mainly without batterydrain.
As far as my investigations goes these seems to be the main candidates:

MiuiAndroid - according to their description, this rom stays quite close to the origianal Xiaomi rom, with some western adjustments.
Wiui - based on MiuiAndroid, but I havn't actually manged to find out what differs this from the MiuiAndroid, apart from some tweeks (improved battery, system, camera). True?
Marvin - based on MiuiAndroid, claims to have better performance on cpu and battery than MiuiAndroid. True?
CyanogenMod 10.2 by M1cha, CM rom which seems decently stable. Some new issues with batterydrain otherwise few issues? No possible to install with Updater app.

Or should I simply go by Wiui v4?

Any experience would be nice, how is stability compared to the other candidates?
I'm also open to try other alternatives as long as they are stable.

I have been using WIUI v5 for a while and I have noticed that my battery drains a lot slower and that I can keep using it the whole day without recharching, which I couldn't with stock MIUI (I did limit my CPU to 450 MHz). It hasn't crashed and I haven't noticed strange behavior.
I personally prefer the MIUI like ROM's, because they are easier for normal use.

There seem to be differences in hardware among various Mi2(S) phones and best guess is that MIUI should work better with all the hw used, because independent developers may struggle with proper support.

Although MIUI is visually more appealing to me, I prefer CM since I tend to distrust proprietary Chinese firewall/security framework. Also some MIUI basic apps (phone, messages) have bugs (not affecting the Chinese market).

You can replace those apps with alternatives from G Play, but then again, these do not fit well into the MIUI environment...

BTW I use Nova launcher + MIUI theme + MIUI icons + Unicon&Xposed to resemble the visual experience close to the original and still have the full flexibility of CM.

Nonono.... You didn't understand....
Miui is the stock ROM, but this doesn't mean that it will be the best, for me miui is orrible it stole me my credit by sending SMS to other countries when i boot it.....
Cm is safer and more stable, and snaprdagon s4 pro (mi2) and snapdragon 600 (mi2s) are almost the same,the second is better. As you can see miui devs relase only a version for xiaomi mi2 and mi2s for the miui weekly update. And miui is beta, if you want, there are stable cm roms. Listen to me, i'm a developer, i know well how roms works and wich is the best.

Yes and that's so bad, there are a lot of different way to autenticate an account.....

Interesting, I did not know MIUI sends some SMSs. Maybe it's because I did not activate any of their cloud services, credits and whatever ballast they add to Android? If so, then the choice is up to the user, anyway?

I agree, it seems like a strange way of confirming an account. I guess they can do it this way because they aiming towards the home marked. If they are serious about making an impact abroad they have to find another solution. Anyway it not a problem for my boy, as I've blocked all communication with other countries.

If Miui doesn't live up it's good to know there are alernatives.

I think that in terms of performance, battery life... etc CM will be better than MIUI. Also maybe in terms of security, but you can disable all the Xiaomi services so I've never send that expensive SMS. But it's true that the text to skip that step is a bit small.
But right now I think that there is no ROM as stable as MIUI. We'll have it in a few months for sure thanks to the great development of M1cha (and others) but right now I think there are still to many bugs (little bugs) and lacks compared to MIUI.
And of course there's the personal preferences of each user, who may like the MI-UI, the personalization of one rom over the other, and so.

Miui is personally my favorite ROM. I've tried sense, touch wiz, and stock android and I like miui the best. Miui was the main factor of why I bought a mi2. It offers many more features than stock android which I like. I get good battery life and its very stable.

Use the miuiandroid multilingual rom from this website and be done with it.

Miuiandroid produces a stabil rom with very few issues.

i've tried WIUI, Marvin, 4.4 kit kat and Miuiandroid roms and i'm back with STOCK Miui again. i must say that stock MIUI was pretty well built in term of everything (batterylife, speeds, stability..etc). one thing i dont like the miuiandroid was their "deodex" (WIUI and Marvin was built on miuiandroid rom) which will eat more memory from a flesh boot opposed to odex rom like the stock miui will give a better amount of memory to start with. i'm a heavy user. i hate to run my phone in "power saving" mode. it ruin the point being a 1.7ghz snapdragon 600 Mi2s 32GB. if u want power saving, buy yourself another low end spec phone that doesn't eat so much battery. so i kept my phone in "normal" mode 24/7. i've found that the STOCK "stable version" miui has the best of battery life running with normal mode. i've yield about 5 hours of heavy usage (2-3 hrs heavy graphics games, 1-2 hrs of youtube, 3G on 24/7, wifi on about half of the day) daily with the stock stable version JLB24 rom. i'm very happy with the performance and battery life which is very similar to an iPhone5 with iOS7's performance. in my option it out perform WIUI and Marvin. keep in mind that stable build release about once a month. u don't get that much of a features as the weekly build but u don't get that much of "bugs" as the weekly build does.

on the other hand, the weekly builds miui has a great amount of features, better camera (differant gamma settings). it yields about 3 hrs of my heavy usage. but u get to update on a weekly basic and gets the update faster than miuiandroid rom. so if u a very stable well build all around rom for your son's xioami phone then i suggest the STOCK JLB24 version rom.

multilanguage itsn't available for the stable build stock rom neither the weekly build. your best chance for a multilanguage stock rom will be WIUI's experimental build based on JLB7/JLB14 version available at his WIUI page. since STABLE builds were always less buggy and more stable. keep in mind thou i've found that even with WIUI on "performance mode" there still FPS lag on some games that i had to lower the graphics setting which i don't want to and i have no problem playing at higher setting with the STOCK rom. Camera quality was not as good as the recent weekly builds due to the gamma settings was different. noticeable higher noises in low light and no "focus lock" feature but u can use replacement camera app like Camera JB+ and Cemera FV-5. so WIUI or Miuiandroid multilanguage rom is your best choices.

So? That doesn't mean that the MIUI provides good battery life. My battery lasts a lot longer while using WIUI.

it's your choice if u like wiui. to me all weekly builds were not battery friendly. my ideal standard for battery saving is max out heavy continue usage that last 5+ hrs then that consider battery saving. sadly it only happens with the stock JLB stable build miui on my device.
