Hi there i'm new here, if all goes to plan my Xiaomi Mi-One should arrive soon. I have flashed roms from Modaco and XDA before on my ZTE blade but am new to the MI One System, just wanted to ask a few noobie questions...

    1) - Am I correct In thinking that Mi One MIUI is still Officially on 2.3.5? (Not including alphas/betas/test roms etc.) Have Xiaomi specified a release date for the official Mi-One MIUI ICS build?

    2) - I am a bit confused about the update procedure. Isn't the whole point of the Mi-One that it enables you to use the internal dual boot system to install and test roms on the second partition, without having to re-install your current rom? Why are people also using clockwork mod recovery?

    3) - Do Xiaomi actually push official updates to the Mi-One over the air? Or do you always have to manually download and flash the latest official version?

    4) - Are these 'unofficial' English builds on this site just translations of the official Mi-One Rom from http://www.miui.com which remove all traces of Chinese? Or do they have other fixes/additions too?

    5) - Is there a guide anywhere on how to load a rom from inside the actual OS to the second partition and test it?

    6) Is there a general Noobie Guide For Mi-One?

    Any help appreciated :)

    Hi Sere3, welcome.
I'm new here too and also new to Android. The MI-ONE thread is pretty slow, most of the info comes from MarkHUK who seems to do a lot of the work around here.
I can't give you expert answers but I'm happy to share what I think I know.

    1. Can't comment on what's official but I can tell you that the current MIIUI ICS 2.3.16 build available at this site is very good, I wouldn't consider going back to 2.3.5 having used this ROM.

    2. There appears to be a range of ways to flash
    a) you can install a ROM to the other partition from within the OS using the MIUI 'Updater' app (see 5 below).
    b) you can boot to the built in "MI-Recovery" mode to select which partiion you want to boot to and to flash the ROM of partition 1, but the ROM has to be named 'update.zip' to do it this way and that doesn't work for all ROMS (it seems renaming them can cause problems).
    c) I think you can use clockwork but I haven't tried this.
    d) I think you can install ROMS using fastboot if you have android SDK tools installed. I don't know much about this.

    3. I don't think updates are 'pushed to the phone' but it does check of updates (which I think you can disable) and I think it also downloads the update file in the backgound. It won't actually flash to a partition though unless you tell it to.

    4. Hard for me to answer this because the only ROMS I've flashed have been ICS so obviously very different from the 2.3.5 version that was on the phone when I received it. My understanding though is that there are fixes addons and themes etc here that are above and beyond simple tranlations.

    5. I haven't found a guide but it's really very easy. I'm sure when you have the phone you'll get the idea.
    a) install the update using the MIUI updater app
    b) reboot to MI-Recovery mode
    c) reboot from MI-Recovery to the partition that was updated (it will try to indicate which partition has the 'latest' version installed)

    6. I haven't found a general noobie guide either but I'd like to see it if you find one!

A few tips i've picked up:
1.To boot into the build in MI-Recovery mode: hold volume up then press power to boot, release volume up when the language select screen shows. use volume up/down and power to navigate the MI-Recovery interface. (you can also do this from the menu in the MIUI updater app within the OS)
    2. To boot into fastboot: hold power + volume up + camera buttons - credit to rarelyamson for this.

Just to expand on 2 (d) - there is a windows application - Mi Flash available on Xiaomi's website. It is in English. If you put the phone into Fastboot up you can flash from your computer. I've only ever used it for Xiaomi stock ROM's however.

Same here, I haven't been able to get MIUIandroid.com ICS ROM's working so have had to go down this route. Think I may have buggered my phone "Over experimenting" ;) I recently Mi Flashed the latest 2.3.16 ROM. The majority of the ROM is in English, but there are still some parts in Chinese. I also get OTA updates using this method.

Incidentally on miui.com there is also a vanilla ics ROM available to Mi Flash which appears quite stable.

Hey guys, thanks for all the help, much appreciated. I just received my Mi-One today, and all I can say is WOW! This phone is just amazing, exceeded all my expectations. Was surprised at how great the build quality is and the screen! So crisp! Amazing in direct sunlight too. It's just stunning, MIUI too is just a pleasure to use as well.

When I logged on to the internet for the first time over wifi an OTA update came in of the latest 2.3 stable build which I installed. I may just use this for a while to get used to it, seems like most core functionality is in English, so shouldn't be too bad. Would really like to know when an official stable OTA ICS build will be released and pushed, hopefully soon....

I'm sure I will have a few more questions soon, so will keep you posted. How are people finding the ICS build by the way? A lot smoother?

    Hi,
    New to Xiaomi as well.
tried to download ICS 2.4.13 update.zip t SD root - went into MI-recovery and performed update - and reboot -
stuck at boot screen with the M1 xiaomi.com logo.

You need to read the forum, you MUST first if coming from a Gingerbread ROM update the system partitions in MI-Recovery, then perform a wipe of cache and all data. Ensure you have a backup.

Reboot, flash again the update.zip for 2.4.13 ICS MI-ONE and you should be good to go.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi,
I succesfully updated my xiaomi from GB to the 2.4.13 ICS. I did first the partitions upgrade according to instructions. I did all the procedure from mi recovery without problem.
Now I boot to system one and run ics without problem. But when I reboot to system two the system does not boot, stays at Mi one logo.I can only boot to system one.
Is it possible to run latest GB on system two not affecting system one?
if yes what is the procedure that have to do and where I can find the latest GB official xiaomi rom.
    Thank you all.

    regards

Unfortunately you cannot run GB and ICS roms at the same time on different partitions, it will not work.

You can only different GB or ICS versions on different partitions but not ICS and GB.
So you can run the monthly stable release on 1 partition and the weekly updated development version on the other :)

I would definitely love to have that! Perhaps somebody can confirm whether this is possible?
Since it´s only possible to flash ROM's to system one, dual-boot is difficult ATM.

    1. Power off phone
    2. Power on phone and boot into recovery (hold down volume up when pressing the power button to turn on, don’t release volume up until the recovery menu is displayed )
    3. Navigate the menus in recovery using the volume keys to highlight option and the power button to select highlighted option.
    4. Select Language (English)
    5. Main menu > Wipe&Reset > Update System Partition > Yes
    6. Reboot the phone ( Main menu > Reboot > Reboot to System One (Have to select which one u partitioned System One or Two) ), boot into System 1
    7. In MIUI, launch the "Updater" app
    8. Menu > Select Installation pack > (browse to the root of your sd card and select "miuiandroid_mione-2.3.9c.zip") > Update now
    9. I think it got installed

you can probably just choose system 2 in step 6 and finish the steps 7 8 and 9 and it should have been done :)

Becuase when you choose to reboot you can choose what version you want System one or system two

      My phone just checked it:
      System one : miui 2.4.6
      System two : miui 2.4.13
So yes you can have multiple miui ICS versions on the same phone :)
Not really sure why/how i manage to get system two to be my main system but i probably pressed to many buttons somewhere :D i always do that
