Question from a newbie :)

Hi guys,

My question may look stupid but here it is:

I would like to buy a Xiaomi 8 SE. Since it seems you can use english language on the chinese version, it seems you also can download the Google Play Store and uninstall all chinese apps you dont want, what is the problem with this version for a foreign user? I see everybody's asking about the global version, talk about firmwares, updates, etc... but if you speak english (and so can understand everything written on the screen), what will be the differences? Isnt it better not to modify anything and just use it as it is?

for global you have all the basebands supported, for european carriers.
For global you have the most accurate gps coordinates.
But if you want, you can keep using china rom with english language or , when it is released go and switch to global rom.
Maybe they will unlock european baseband also in global firmware release

If you don't mind using English I would recommend the original firmware. Only problem is ,as far as I can se, The device is not certified by Google and gives some negatives.

@marcel112, I asked their salesman and I dont think there will be more basebands for 4G than the ones already indicated on Xiaomi's website for the chinese version (I may be wrong though). Xiaomi 8 or Mix2S seems to have much more of them included in their hardware.
Do global ROMs allow you to update the phone automatically or do you need to re-flash every time? Also, are the ROMs on Xiaomi.eu officially coming from Xioami or are they made by people/developers not really affiliated with Xiaomi? Because I'm a bit concerned about that.

@zmajdk I didnt understand what you meant by "The device is not certified by Google and gives some negatives." So I checked on Google and endep up on a link showing the devices certified by Google. Xioami 8 SE is written on it so I'm not sure...

When you are on official rom from xiaomi you can use updater app to update it easy.I dont know if you could go from china to globat without full wipe of phone.
Xiaomi.eu is based off official china weekly released rom, but cina apps removed, eu gps settings and more

When I look under Google . play settings I found this: device certification, uncertified. I can use Google play store but it must have some drowbacks.
I don't know if it possible to fix. Just for information.

@zmajdk Well, I dont know, it appears on what seems to be an full list of devices that are certified.
Are you using the original ROM of the chinese version or another one? Not an expert but maybe it comes from there.

If you have access to all the usual Google services and apps though, that's a good thing.
