Unlocking Bootloader Removes Some Capability?

I read in the unlock disclaimer that unlocking the bootloader removes the capability to use Find My Phone on i.mi.com and also prevents encryption. Or at least it was worded in a way that indicates this. Is that all actually true? Or is it more of a general warning that these features could be disabled/circumvented easily due to the reduced security?

Secondly, why is it that some devices require unlocked bootloader but others don't? I.e. what needs to be changed in the boot.img initrd for the devices to work wih xiaomi.eu ROM's? I have a Redmi Note 4 myself, still awaiting confirmation to allow unlocking it - but was curious as to why it's needed in the first place.

Thanks!
