Hello, forum members!

I’m experiencing an unusual issue with my Xiaomi Mi Laser Projector 4K and wanted to see if anyone else has encountered something similar or has any ideas about what might be causing it. Searching online didn’t help.

The Problem:

Recently, when outputting 4K (2160p) from a PC, the image behaves strangely:

  • The picture appears to be displayed in 2160p, but every second row of pixels is missing.
  • To test this, I created a 4K test image in Photoshop with 1-pixel-thick horizontal lines (Video #1) and moved it vertically. In the recording, you can see that some lines disappear and reappear, confirming that rows are being skipped.
  • I also made a video with moving lines—the issue is less noticeable due to video compression, but you can still see the lines becoming semi-transparent.
  • When I saved the video to a USB drive and played it via the projector’s built-in media player, the issue became much less noticeable (lines no longer disappear, and flickering is almost gone – Videos #2 & #3). This is somewhat tolerable.
  • The problem might be related to pixel-shifting technology (pseudo-4K in DLP projectors) and could be HDMI-specific.

What I’ve Tried:

  1. Connected different PCs and laptops – the issue persists.
  2. Tested all HDMI ports and different HDMI cables – same result.
  3. Updated the projector’s firmware.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone else experienced this?
  2. Are there other diagnostic methods I could try?
  3. Could this be a firmware issue, or is it hardware-related? (e.g., a faulty HDMI controller on the board).
I’ve attached three videos:

  • One from the PC source,
