How do you guys feel about this news ?

MI3 already has it... And they announced that their phone series will be getting it already...

So... Why so angry?
Besides if you really can't wait, MI2S is officially supported by CM so you can get your KitKat kick right away if you wanted.

I am cool with CM. MIUI isn't an option for me anymore. The only disadvantage in my opinion is the lack of 4G but that is haqrdware and does not hurt enough to buy something else yet.

I still think the Mi2s was a good choice to buy and so far it served me well.

@ Manohar. afaik you are running CM as well so why bother? you had a great phone so far with good specs.

I agree never buy probably a xiaomi device but for now wiui kk is there And cm is great

Miui V5 4.4 comes for this phones because they have already 4.4 baserom builded from manufacters. Its not team miu that ports kitkat\L to other phones. I hope that xiaomi will use android L and miui v6 for our phone.

Yeah its not the official miui team making these ports but other developers. I guess there working on v6.

Who cares about 4.4 MIUI? CM11 is way better in every aspect. As long as there are so good devs, MI2S remains a top of the line device. I do not care at all about my phone's original android version, I only care for its hardware and the support by the community.
Xiaomi can do whatever they want with their devices, so can we!

I really would like to know what keeps people using miui.
theme manager? CM has it, too now
transparent statusbar? AOSP has it since 4.4
settings tiles? AOSP has it, too

And with 5.0 the Material Design will be introduced which is that simple that Samsung, MIUI, etc can't(SHOULDN'T) really change anything except colors.

for the design, all the functions, and the possibillity to sync everything with Micloud without using google services :D
u prefer miui design over material? sounds weird ;)
anyway syncing with micloud only makes sense if you're living in china imo because I'd rather trust google than xiaomi.

Nothing solid on miui v6....

If xiaomi would be that stupid to not push kitkat officially to the mi2 they would leave a huge gap... ( and tons of unhappy customers... )
CM seems to have the gap allready covered and so far i'm really happy with the results.

If CM can get the battery usage down i'll ditch miui JB completely..

I don't use CM cause I can't (I own a Mi3) but the only things I'll miss from miui will be:
- call recording
- use pattern to lock apps
- easier use of privacy function (I still don't fully understand hot to use AppOpps in CM)
- and other details like showing the number of rings from a lost call, battery bar, or the piano sound keys while dialing

And the best music player in Android. It can show you high definition covers, synced lyrics and simple UI design, but can't be ported to other Android versions because of the Xiaomi's framework :(

Android L is not even released :D... and those 2 things is a question of taste and of point of view, i guess :p Do the chineses (xiaomi) will give everything to your local police and government, as google do, if they ask?
It depends on who u want to have your data. I don't care about the police at all so it's Chinese government vs NSA and I'd chose the NSA :)

not sure why people want that much the latest version of android when they use miui and have weelky updates... do you really need it ? i have miui with android 4.2.2 on nexus 4 and i'd rather use it than CM4.4.3

stop looking at "About phone - android version" and use your phone instead :p

and xiaomi is know to cherry picking part of code of new android versions to backport it to miui.

Maybe xiaomi should edit the config file to show "android 4.4", everyone will be happy and no one will notice the differences lol
It's about app compatibility and security.
Install xray and you'll see how insecure your phone is :)

Well, I'm not a miui guy, but I have to say there's much features I miss since I made the switch from miui to aosp/pa and now CM11.

The design
I don't mean the style design. Someone may prefer miui style over holo style, I like holo style but there's nothing to argue about, just everyone has their own taste. By design I mean the system is well designed which works better comparing to vanilla android. Let me list some useful features I miss from miui:

Status bar & Notification panel
1. Have notifications and quick switches, and possible to switch between them with a swipe gesture instead of have to reach and tap the tiny button on top right, I miss it;
2. Brightness control slider right inside quick settings panel, which is IMO way more comfortable than just using a button to switch between full, half, low or have to tap a tile again and a new popup shows, the less steps the better right?
3. Ability to disable physical navigation keys so that I don't touch them by accident while I play a game - now I prefer on-screen navigation bar so it doesn't really bugs me, but it would be nice to have this useful toggle in CM.
4. Ability to pull down status bar while running a full screen app - this is never been possible without an floating app before Kitkat.

Camera
Flashlight and camera can be opened at the same time which is IMO way more useful than a flash light when you try to capture something in a really dark environment since it helps focus better.

Better People, Dialer, Messaging for Chinese people
Not much to say here, CM is by design a international rom, which may suit English speaking people better but those stock android apps just doesn't feel comfortable to us, they're hard to use too.

Xiaomi Account
Yes, I really do want to use Google service (which I am using right now on CM11) but for the reason everyone in China knows there's GFW so we can not get a reliable connection to Google, and most of Google's service is blocked (like the entire youtube.com domain, which leads to a bunch of problems) So if I want Google, I have to use a secured proxy everyday (which is I am doing now, I can't even get a stable connection to this forum without a proxy) so it's nice to have manufacture run a service that is reliable to use. If Xiaomi ever release the contact sync for vanilla android, I will use it instead of Google service. And about who gets my data, my government, some oversea NSA guys, I don't care - I'm nobody after all.

statusbar:
1) u can pull the menu down on the right side and it will directly open the quick tiles
4) "before kitkat". but we have kk now so it doesn't really matter :D

but thx for the information about the others :)

miui is the only rom where my three earphone buttons work properly..

if they (cm) can fix that, then i will switch to CM or PAC

So.. You're wondering why the not-Xiaomi devices will get MIUI V5 and Xiaomi devices won't. Doesn't seems to me a weird thing. An official launch will be on the 22 (or was it 21?) of july. Im pretty confident that the MI4 will be launched together with MIUI V6. It would be logical that all (maybe except MI-ONE) will get updated to MIUI V6. So don't worry. Xiaomi won't abbandon his own devices.

That's what i think will gonna happen.

Dolby ? Xposed Framework + ART ? V4's Battery Life ? - Do we have these yet in KK ?

But the theme even with a paid theme won't be that close, in my opinion ( at least when I tried a while ago) so even with all effort it would'nt be 75 % close to design nope??
