Twrp For Mi Pad 3

Hi people, I guess I need some help here.
My MI Pad 3 is not detected by the Unlock aplication. It's in Fastboot mode, and appears as Lenovo Composite ADB interface in PC. So, why is it not detected to unlock???? I don't get it... I try with a Redmi 4 and it was detected imediatly...
Some advice?

Thanks.

As far as I'm concerned you don't have to unlock the bootloader. I didn't have to unlock mine

Well, I have drivers issue. I get it to work, but I found that I have a shop rom installed...
That's a nightmare...

Did you check the device info?
Normaly the boolloader is allready unlocked at stock.

1.Boot device in recovery
2.open CMD (Admin)
3.fastboot devices (If the computer recognize your phone, the drivers ok):

devices.png

4.Prompt this: fastboot getvar all
getvar.png

Now you see if the device is locked or not.

Thank you for the info, I found that the MIPad3 is unlock for default, so no need to unlock it.

So, this is what i did, very easy:

Install twrp
Reboot in twrp
Format data (must do)
Flash Xiaomi.eu ROM, saved in my usb PEN
Wipe
reboot....

That's that simple...
Xiaomi.eu flashed, 4GB Ram and 64GB rom...

I made a list of steps; are these correct?

1. Download en install ADB fastboot: https://androidmtk.com/download-minimal-adb-and-fastboot-tool or https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html#linux-bundle-size

2. Connect device to PC and wait until drivers are installed

3. Boot device in fastboot (Volume down+ Power on, hold the Volume down-Key until fastboot loads)

4. Open ADB and enter: fastboot devices -> your device should be listed
5. Enter: fastboot getvar all -> check if boot loader is unlocked (normally already unlocked)

6. Download TWRP from https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767156737 or https://twrp.me/devices/xiaomimipad.html -> rename to: twrp.img and place in same directory as ADB on PC

7. Enter:
fastboot -w
fastboot erase system
fastboot format system
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

8. Download xiaomi.eu-zip (https://xiaomi.eu/community/forums/miui-weekly-rom-releases.103/ ) (xiaomi.eu_multi_MIPAD3_7.5.11_v8-7.0.zip)

9. Boot into TWRP (Volume up + Power on, hold the Volume up-Key until TWRP boots)

10. WIPE -> Data -> Repair or Change File System -> Resize File System

11. Connect USB-mouse to Mi Pad with OTG cable and copy ROM and SuperSU

12. Flash Rom

13. Flash SuperSU (https://download.chainfire.eu/1021/SuperSU/SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip)

Touch now works after reboot and no mouse needed anymore!!

twrp_b2.img

I tried it but have the touch screen problem. Screen does not work. Where did you download your TWRP?
I tried these two: https://androidmtk.com/download-minimal-adb-and-fastboot-tool or https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html#linux-bundle-size

And also there is this question on Keep system read only Yes/No, what to select?

I read that if touchscreen does not work I have to flash the Chinese Fastboot ("If touch screen not work, try to flash china beta fastboot first.") (http://en.miui.com/thread-593004-1-1.html Chose the developers version then?) by using the Xiaomi Flashing tool (http://en.miui.com/a-234.html). Anybody tried that?

Any suggestions are welcome since I do now have a not working mi pad. What am I doing wrong??

@RelRedHair

I also had the problem with the touchscreen not working in Twrp. What I did was put the .zip file with the rom on the mipad once in twrp.
Then disconnect the mipad from your computer. Once it's disconnected I plugged in a mouse via a otg cable. With the mouse I could navigate through Twrp and flash the xiaomi.eu rom.

Hopefully this information will be useful to you.;)

Thanks, it worked for me. Had to borrow cold old USB cable mouse from the neighbour but now touch in TWRP also works finally. Thanks a lot!

Hi, thanks for the informative workout posts above, I had to use an old usb hub to get both a mouse and a usb drive connected to the Mipad 3.
It was a usb-1 hub so installing the rom was very slow, but all in all it worked.
Glad to see the FM radio app on the homescreen.
Google Playstore works fine now, that's a big improvement.
Again thanks!

Hi everybody,

It doesn't work for me for my mipad 3.

Here is my initial problem.
I bought a Logitech K480 bluetooth keyboard. It works nice with all my phone devices (Honor 5C, Redmi 4 Prime) but not with my MIPAD 3.
Indeed, once connected when I started to type, it didn't write AZERTY or QWERTY but something like QRDB... XD
So I decided to change the rom and I installed the last official stable version. And after AZERTY works ! But no way to install Google Play Store, most of the GUI in chinese...
So I followed a tutorial to install your rom :
  • Flash with the Dev Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 Latest China Developer Version Fastboot File Download rom
  • Install TWRP 3.1.0
  • Copy the xiaomi.eu_multi_MIPAD3_7.5.18_v8-7.0.zip into the TWRP folder
  • Install it. Once finished I had some messages like unmount of /cust failed; no such volume but it didn't seem blocking the process
  • Once process done, I swiped the dalvik/cache, reboot and no it's staying for hours on the MI icon with the 3 dot...
I have no problem to flash it again with the official rom, fastboot is also reachable.

I tested with the tutorial present in this thread, but everytime when I ask to reboot it tells me that no OS is installed. o_O

Here is what is displayed at the end :

Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check : no MD5 file found
Target : Xiaomi/cappu:cappu:7.0/NRD90M/7.5.18:user/release-keys
mount: no partition named "/dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/11230000.MSDC0/by-name/cust"
Patching firmware images...
Installing MIUI update...
unmount of /cust failed; no such volume
script succeeded: result was []
Updating partiotion details...
...done

Could you give me some help please ?

:(

I could activate touch in TWRP by following these steps:
1. Download the China Dev Fastboot Rom from en.miui.com
2. Unpack the file and open a terminal in the "images" subfolder.
3. Enter the Fastboot mode and connect your Tablet with your PC.
4. Check if your Tablet is successfully connected by typing "fastboot devices" in your command line.
5. Enter
  • fastboot flash system system.img
  • fastboot flash boot boot.img
  • fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
  • fastboot flash cache cache.img
  • fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
6. After that, you can reboot your device typing "fastboot reboot".
7. Now, you have to follow the steps from above to flash twrp and touch should work. :)

I have some serious problem with this instructions. I followed all but fail to get my MI Pad 3 Rooted :( The strange thing is when flashing super su the message is boot img missing -aborted every time and unmount of /cust failed; no such volume . Without root i have no use of this device.
So first flash the xiaomi.eu-zip and superSU after the TWRP installation and format resize of data partion. All looks fine but no ROOT. After that fastboot flashing all image files of china developer rom and try again... Now I have done that 3 times and starting to wonder if there is another way to obtain ROOT?
Now after latest attempt it is not possible to copy the files at all the USB memory is not recognized so I am stuck with china developer rom not rooted or just TWRP and no boot :( Any help for enable usb otg?
I just figured out that it is a modified superSU out there:SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-cappu.zip but now I am not able to flash anything from TWRP . USB OTG is not working.

I think there is a modified superSU out there named SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-cappu.zip found it in Russian MULTI ROM forum MI Pad 1/2/3 MI PAD 3 page 2 . Post#20 click on BOT (I am not allowed to post link in forum)

I finally managed to fix everything by trying little different variations of the instructions of this thread.
So what worked for me was:

1. Download the China Stable Fastboot Rom from en.miui.com
2. Unpack the file and open a terminal in the "images" subfolder.
3. Enter the Fastboot mode and connect your Tablet with your PC.
4. Check if your Tablet is successfully connected by typing "fastboot devices" in your command line.
5. Enter
  • fastboot flash system system.img
  • fastboot flash boot boot.img
  • fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
  • fastboot flash cache cache.img
  • fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
6. After that, you can reboot your device typing "fastboot reboot".Restart the unit and then again enter fastboot.

7. Enter:
fastboot -w
I skipped this step: fastboot erase system
I skipped this step: fastboot format system
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

8.Download xiaomi.eu-zip
9.Download SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-cappu.zip found it in Russian MULTI ROM forum MI Pad 1/2/3 MI PAD 3 page 2 . Post#20 click on BOT (I am not allowed to post link in forum)

10.Boot into TWRP (Volume up + Power on, hold the Volume up-Key until TWRP boots)

11.Wipe only dalvik and cache at this time do not format data.
12.Flash the custom rom from and the SuperSu from step 8 and 9 otg usb.
13.Wipe Dalvik and Cache and reboot to system.
14.Do initial setups as normal.Do not install anything big because the memory is not yet formatted so you are right now limited to internal memory only.
15.Reboot into TWRP
16.WIPE -> Data -> Repair or Change File System -> Resize File System (Only Data tick box shall be filled in)
17.Reboot in to system.

It worked for me and I have no idea why my usb memory was not recognized that was the reason why i did as I did in step#7
SuperSu is working well.
A warning! Do not try to install Magisk! I ended up with a dead unit but I did find a much helpful guide that saved my day. I did not take out my battery and it worked anyway just keep th volume down button as long as needed to flash 5-10 min ... Google: "97373-how-to-unbrick-soft-and-hard-bricked-mediatek-mtk-android-phone"

So after that unbrick experience I followed the steps 1-17 again.

Hi

For those who don't have an OTG cable to copy the ROM after erasing the system, I found a workaround by installing MiPC suite.

Adb sideload didn't work. But after starting MiPCsuite, the Mipad showed as an MTP device in windows 10 explorer.

Then copy it, flash it in twrp...

Touch now works after reboot and no mouse needed anymore!!
If i follow this guide i'll can have problem with touch?

I got also stuck the first time, "Resize the file system" did the trick.
Same problem. I solved it with formatting in TWRP. Just changed filesystem to ext4. I think it was on ext4 already but did only recognise a tiny bit of the RAM before, after I changed the filesystem everything worked. I could copy the ROM.zip and install it.

Guys, I did it!

I had no problems with the touchscreen, so there was nothing to solve for me. My Bootloader was also unlocked already.

Here is everything I did (be careful, this deletes all your data!):

Boot into fastboot (Volume down+ Power on, hold the Volume down-Key until fastboot loads)
Code:
fastboot -w
fastboot erase system
fastboot format system
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

Boot into TWRP (Volume up + Power on, hold the Volume up-Key until TWRP boots)

WIPE -> Data -> Repair or Change File System -> Resize File System

Flash xiaomi.eu-zip normally (hopefully) enjoy!
Perfect!!!!!! thanks!!!
