Im pretty sure that you guys have forgotten to reboot the recovery after updating. As long as you dont restart the recovery, you are still on twrp 3.0.2.2.
I flashed recovery, turned on phone normally, moved rom download to pc, rebooted phone to recovery, cleaned everything, moved rom to phone, flashed rom, rebooted to system.

because fastboot, recovery, nothing was working..

Can try with key combo: volume down + power to enter fastboot. Then by using the fastboot_edl modded fastboot command you can go into edl from fastboot.

Redmi Note 3 Special Edition (kate) via tapatalk
doesn't work

I just installed the latest twrp 3.0.2.3 on my MI5 (64GB) then rebooted to recovery, did a factory reset and then flashed the rom ... now the device won't turn on in any possible way

For those who had hardbricked your mi5, there are two ways to recover it.

One with a DIY usb cable, here, two tutorials how to make one:
h t t p : / / w w w . a l e g r e c o m p r a . c o m / b l o g / t a g / x i a o m i -mi5-edl-flash-cable/
h t t p : / / e n . m i u I . c o m / t h r e a d -310325-1-1.html

Other way it's open your mi5 and bypass the motherboard like in this video

h t t p s : / / w w w . y o u t u b e . c o m / watch?v=ED96PJ-qYMM

Can't post links until I have 10 messages, please copy addresses and remove spaces.

Hope all of you can recover your mi5

You save my life! i make like that youtube video, and now my mi5 is starting.. so big thanks!

I'm not sure but I think that all hardbricked their phone, make a wipe system before flash the rom.

If I make a wipe /system on my Mi5 the only way to get it booting is with a clean fastboot flash via MiFlash.
Otherwise just bootloop.
For flashing Nougat I'll probably wait this afternoon.

I read that mi5 brick could be caused by some incompatibility of nougat with a few apps (even if this reason sounds very strange). I feel it is better to stop the update and for people bricked provide info about installed app especially like xposed root apps and so on.
The same brick seems happening on China rom.

Do we need to press power button or something before PC recognize as COM port?
Can't understand the language, and don't have tool to open my device at the moment.

I don't understand u guys
I have mi5 64gb with unlocked bootloader and had no problem with the update.
First flashed twrp and then the update

You just plug USB cable when you press on that motherboard, but be careful. its working and you need open device.
i dont know how other ways work but this was good for me.

NEVER wipe /system partition manually..!!! before or after update its still a bad idea!

And after update TWRP to 3.0.2.3 you have to reboot to TWRP again for boot into that version!

I did a reboot to recovery after installing it threw old twrp to check if i has been installed correctly, but still i got a hard brick after flashing the rom

ty, tell us after we bricked it

1. I updated TWRP 3.0.2.3 (Twrp select install then choose image and those to recovery and done)
2. Reboot
3. Install xiaomi eu 6.12.8 in TWPR
4. Then just wipe cache/dalvik
5. Reboot

My MI5 works ok :)
