Hello. I am new to Xiaomi phones, but ordered a brand new Mi8.
Now I have a few questions.

Since it has the normal china rom on it, I want to switch to this rom here, but there is some stuff that I could not find out, so here are my questions:

1. are there OTA Updates? I dont want to flash it again and again and wipe everything that was on the phone. (tried to consult goole, but different answeres. Yes, no, I have no clue).
2. Is everything working like it does with the original rom? I had a Desire HD back in the days and put a custom rom on it. It worked fine, but came for example with different software for the cam. Since the test reviews of the MI8 were pretty good, I dont want to cripple my phone. It is based on the MIUI 10 Beta, isnt it?
3. What about the bootloader? Will there be problems if I unlock it and flash this rom? Heard some google apps want a locked Bootloader. Can I relock it and still get the updates for the rom?

thanks in advance

An application is not sending me any push notification even though it was working on stock miui. Can anybody help? Xiaomi mi 5

We will investigate how they did it amd will see if it's possible to revert it.. But always do a backup in TWRP.. It will works anyway..

I would be very cautious assuming a TWRP backup from a previous version will work.

It all hangs on how "they" implement tamper-evident storage.

A new tamper-proof partition?
TWRP will have to be able to handle that.

This can get ugly very quickly, possibly already has. thanks

"Tamper-evident storage must be used for stored rollback indexes, keys used for verification, device state (whether the device is LOCKED or UNLOCKED), and named persistent values. If tampering has been detected the corresponding AvbOps operation should fail by e.g. returning AVB_IO_RESULT_ERROR_IO. It is especially important that verification keys cannot be tampered with since they represent the root-of-trust."

About the anti-rollback announcement on the official forum they just said it enabled by 8.7.5 global beta so if xiaomi.eu rom is based on china beta can we revert back to previous rom version? Please someone confirm i don't want to be trapped by an unstable ROM:emoji_cry:

I'm not sure, if this is the right topic to post, but:
Since i updated to miui10, there's currently a problem showing the correct Operator as soon as the SIM CARD Name is changed to a custom-value. I guess this is, because you can't delete this custom name. In general, this isn't that bad, but in case of roaming you won't find out which provider you are connected to. The only way is to go to settings and network-search.

Is there no possibility to show the operator in the notification bar on top?

V.8.7.6 of Mix 2S Google pay can't add new VISA

That's not gear to hear.
I've just joined the forum to have a look around as I am looking to get Android Pay working on the better half's MIX 2S.
Probably the same as you, when you add the card and CVC code, it says :-

Couldn't finish setup to pay in stores
This phone cannot be used to pay in stores.
This may be because it is rooted or altered in some other way.

Is it the same with this custom ROM?

So Google Pay won't work with the Chinese ROM, and it seems others who have unlocked the boot loader and flashed Official Global or Custom ROMs cannot re-lock the bootloader or get it to work with Magisk.

I hope we find a solution soon. I am also expecting arrival of a MI 8 for myself (orderd from ibuygou on announcement day - Fedex appear to have lost it at the moment... *sigh*) I expect that'll have the same issue.
If it can't be resolved soon, we'll probably have to sell them and pay out a bit more for a pair of OP6 handsets (which'll be a shame, other than the NFC payment issue, K really loves her MIX 2S).

Big mistake buying from them :)

Big mistake buying from them :)

Hi Mark,

buying from *that place* is a big mistake? :(
Over the last 5 years I've bought around a dozen handsets (mainly Xiaomi and Nubia), this is the first time one has gone missing during transit.
I've bought from lots of the usual places before (the two popular ones that start with a "G", and this one that starts with an "i").

Are they known for issues with sending things out?

Please could you send me a direct message and let me know what you mean? thanks! :)

Hope you are having a good day. :)

J

I'll just say go read just about every single review on them and all the after sales issues they have etc etc... slow sending, multiple excuses for delayed orders, higher than market prices and more... Im sure you can get the idea :)

We already have a thread for this in the mix2s forum. It is NOT working on any other rom than global official and with XA model. No Problem of the eu rom, the problem also exists in the betas or chinese version from miui itself
