I got the "google restore" option on the global stable, not on the xiaomi.eu rom.
Maybe because the xiaomi.eu rom is based on the china ROM, the google restore option is not implemented.
But the build in xiaomi backup and restore process is also working very well and worked perfectly for me every time

as far as I can see there is a google backup & restore function on the EU rom. At least I used it

Yes, there is the functions in the settings to backup, but if you install xiaomi.eu for the first time, or if you make a factory reset, the google restore never starts, instead starts the micloud restore (but google backup has also application data, so i don't have to restore settings or lost them).
Btw with adb and bmgr, the Google restore can be triggered manually.

I my case , I just had to wipe everything , everything came back from google backup as soon I activated my google account and switched google drive on. Including the VPN as I live in Shanghai ........ It would be a bit more clear if there would be proper "backup now" and "restore now" functions

Well that's good to know! I'll check it out next time I do a full wipe.
But the issue that I'm facing is that Google backup is erratic in its backups. App Data and Device Settings last sync on Aug 23rd, Call history on Aug 22nd and SMS is waiting for backup. Since there's no "Backup Now", there's no way to have a clean Google Backup before a wipe.

yes you can make a full backup just before a wipe with adb

adb shell
bmgr run
bmgr backupnow appdata
bmgr backupnow --all

in this way you have a full google backup, then you can wipe your phone....

Sorry, I meant directly from the phone. Unless I'm mistaking, the only way to use adb is via a PC connexion.

this is a known issue in the 8.8.16 build.
Please check the open issues of your language build (see page 1: report bugs). There was an issue with the german translation in that build, which has been fixed in the 8.8.23 build, which is coming up tomorrow approx.
