Mi2S - extending size of storage partition


Hi.

Where do you get "partition_tools.zip"?

And I'm not able to get root access with adb in recovery mode, then I can't even use the adb shell option.

I can use it booting the device in normal mode, and because I have used a tool called adb insecure, but I guess I won't be able to change partitions without going to the recovery mode.

Some other sites say to use mke2fs .
Is it better or worse than the commands you have used?
 
Hello, so I followed this guide on my 32GB Mi2s, but I cannot restore the backup in CWM v6.0.5.0, because

OIC maybe because storage is type ext3? How did that happen :-]
 
LOL so I fixed that. Somebody can delete my previous post :)
Just ran the last commands again and it became ext4 and then I could restore the backup of /data and it seems my phone is now running as before but with 9GB of system storage ready to hold those crazy big google apps and such things :)

HELP...I followed the steps, but for me i needed to extend the system partition ( as my system got to 1% left and was not able to update or download any app).
According to the steps above, I did remove to the 23-27 (rm 23, rm 24 ...), and then I assigned 23-27 different sizes, and not after print I have this ( I have 32GB version):

I did wipe dalvik cache, wipe data, wipe cache, and reboot to system from CWM, but no the phone is stuck on the MI icon..

How can I resolve this? I hope I did not brick the phone. I did before the change backup, and also copied all internal storage to my PC.

Please assist me, as I am stuck...
 
Which guide are you talking about? You should have removed just 26 and 27! What is the point of removing 23 and 24?
 
can someone explain to me why the mi2s has partitions setup the way it is? i only ask because i looked at my friend's mi3 as well as my mipad, and both look to have more of a unified storage layout. is it because mi2s is android 4.1 and mi3/mipad are 4.4?

And also because the MIUI 6 4.4.4 update is a fake update.

The whole point of this thread is very different - to change size of the "system storage" and "internal storage". That does not mean the two partitions where system resides. I think you are just confused... There is no point in changing the partitions for the OS, because the two systems fit there just right.

Same internal stuff of MIUI V5 ROM, that's why they called "Special Edition". The MIUI 6 Kit Kat based for Mi2/S is like a Custom ROM, with all the tweaks needed to run Kit Kat. No developer here can use some source from it, because there aren't. Or better, they are the same old stuff.

Hey Fortinho, you're the closest person to have replied about unified storage on mi2s. Any idea what is blocking it on mi2s? From what I understand, this is a "feature" that should be available since Android 4.0!
 
M1cha has an idea on how to implement it in his port of CM12 for Mi2(s). But since he's very busy making the basic functions work, such as working sound, microphone and similar, unified storage will probably only be looked after stabilisation of CM12. I'm also interested, so I keep an eye on all relevant threads :)

Is something related to the manifacturer (thank you Xiaomi) that decided to not change that stuff, I guess. Is not only about Android version, otherwise we should have unified storage, but is about partition table and ROM compatibility.

Don't want to give useless "hopes", but mabye with G4A and some M1cha's magic we could have something.

yea the manufacturer can easily change it but for CyanogenMod we don't want to expect that users change their partition table and kill compatibility with all rom's but one.

How I can reduce the system 2 partition? I have a 16gb Mi2S. Someone can post the repartition.sh or a string?
 
Is there a way to use this script without using recovery? My USB port broke, and I use ADB over WiFi when I need it, but I'm helpless if I have to use it through CWM...

Maybe there's a way to make flashable zip with the script to automatically repartition system2 and data to a certain size? If there is I would really appreciate it someone explained me how to do it...
