persist partition got thanosed

yesterday my mi 8 froze and went into bootloop.
apparently the persist partition somehow got deleted.
i cant do anything about it in fastboot, but also the partition doesnt restore if i flash fastboot roms (ive tried the latest global beta and china developer on downmi but no response)
what can be done to fix this mf partition?
 
i had same problem 2 times ast week.
my solution is bellow:

chose wipe-> 'format data' in TWRP . for acces at data on Mi8.

Install TWRP 3.2.1-0611 (My 3.3.1 version not have possibility to flash image on /persist)
is on chinese, go to settings/ globe to activate the english version.
on reboot in TWRP
copy persist.img in MI8 with a computer.
persist.img file is on archive of a orgiginal xiaomi global rom, warning download a fastboot version of rom.

In TWRP: Chose install image, and copy persist.img into partition named persist
format all data (normally /persist is unlocked)

REboot in recovery
copy your rom and magisk on Mi8 with a computer
Install Rom + magisk


you MI system is ready !

Had this problem too. Needed to format the phone four time on the last 2 weeks. It's been awful.
And apparently is random... Don't know what to do, but format the phone once or twice a week, is not a good way to go
 
Ocurred last time exactly one week ago... I'm hoping that it got fixed, but can't be sure of it.
I'll update here if it happens again. I like xiaomi.eu rom, but will try another one (Havoc maybe?) if need to format again

Which TWRP did you use? Did you try with another TWRP?
 
Guys, I accidentally locked the bootloader while changing recoveries, don't know exactly how it happened, but sadly it has happened because It no longer allows me to do anything in fastboot... Am I royally ****ed?

1st, Try unlocking again with unlock tool. If failed, you have to flash in EDL mode.
 
The ROM got corrupted again today. System lagged, camera stopped, but i did not rebooted and it normalized after a while, but now keeps receiving android.process.media keeps stopping...
I will try another rom, sadly, but i just can't be formating the phone once/twice a week

Oh no.. Again..!! Is persist partition ok? Are you using magisk?
 
My advice:
1. Stop messing around with android if you don't are a real pro....
2. "Reset" your phones via MiFlash and a complete rom from MIUI.
3. Wipe everything with MiFlash but don't relock!
4. Start again at the beginning with actual TWRP etc...
5. Have fun.

Which TWRP do you recommend for Mi 8?
 
These kinds of problems, if repeating for no good reason, might be hardware faults, e.g. faulty memory.

If you still have warranty / guaranty for the phone, think about trying to replace it with a new phone.

I was not messing with Android, only had xioami.eu rom with magisk installed with 2 modules (camera shutter disable and vanced youtube), didn't had any other mod...
Was just chatting with whatsapp at the time.
Mi flash asked me for an authorized account when i've tried to use it.

I though it could be the case too, but as i don't have warranty, i will try to use another rom, and hope that software issues was causing my issues.
I will come back here to update if changing the rom solved.

The restore solution is the fastest because I use orangefox recovery:
1- flash: recovery-TWRP-3.2.2-0703-XIAOMI8-CN-wzsx150
2- install persist.img on the partition / persist
A backup on roll (made before with orangefox) - carried out without success :(
A flash of ROM MI8_9.8.29 have restored my sytem ;)

How to proceed so that it does not happen again? how to obtain a reliable / persistent partition ?

or just a safe system ...

Didn't you use the official TWRP to flash the rom?

Just don't wipe Persist partition ever again.
 
I use ORANGE FOX to flash the ROM every week,
Previously, orange fox, I only used the official version twrp-3.3.1-1-dipper.img
The problem is that the official version does not allow you to flash /persist partition after a crash.
I am obliged to use a non-official TWRP like the TWRP-3.2.2-0703-XIAOMI8-CN-wzsx150

Yes, but you wiped persist partition using an unofficial twrp in the first place.
