Search for Most Stable AOSP rom, conclusion: QDT14 incl. tips&tricks & IVAN AOSP (update 7.3.2014)

I have been testing AOSP QDT14 for about two days, it is really friendlier to battery than CM10.1 + CM11 (by M1cha).
In addition to the few bugs mentioned here, I also got again often ghost touches. Flashing the MiCore 009 did not help, however, flashing recent MIUI v5 boot.img did help. (I just extracted it from MIUI zip and dd'ed to the boot partition.) I also reflashed MIUI to the other system2 to get recent radio/modem, etc.

@RobinHood00: Since I feel too much restricted by the stock lockscreen of Android 4.1 and alternative lockers are not a solution for me [1], would you share your experience gathered during the tests and tell us what would be the next most battery saving candidate (Android 4.2 and higher)?

[1] I use PIN security and alternative lockers are just an additional layer above the existing lockscreen. The QDT14 lockscreen cannot directly open the camera (in secure mode) without PIN entry and it does not allow the quick PIN entry (without the need to press "enter"). I have not found any Xposed module for a workaround (other then disabling/ignoring PIN, which I definitely do not want).

...
There is no other option which has good battery life. All other roms suck, maybe for the first two days a rom works fine, but the battery life in QDT14 is about 2-3 times better than other roms. Wait for official kitkat...

mokee os is a valid alternative. Not good as 4.1 aosp, but like official miui . Testing it for about a week. The battery sometimes starts to drain fast.. usually a reboot will fix this. 1 battery day is enough :)

It is acceptable, it is not a valid alternative in my opinion.

24 hours of heavy use its enough for me :) Almost with 4h screen on. Yes, with Aosp i m able to reach 5.30 h in 36h (approximately), but lastest mokee have a good battery performance for a kitkat rom! :)

Been using your set up for a few days now.. the ROM has settled properly and the overheating issue no longer present.. I'm now experiencing the best battery life since I first got my Mi2(16G) which was more than a year ago... talk about value for money! My next device will be the next Xiaomi Phone with SD805SoC... till then.. this ROM set up is more than sufficient. once again, many thanks for this suggestion!

Glad you'll like it, let's hope Official Xiaomi AOSP KitKat rom will be there next month for our phone and let's hope it runs just as good as this! I went to an electronica store today to check out the Xperia Z1 Compact, it looks TERRIBLE, I was thinking about getting it instead of the M2S (because of SDcard slot) but I will not lol.

Thanks for this one RobinHood, I was looking around for a AOSP(ish) alternative for my Mi2S and the ones i tried drank my battery like it was beer. I didn't even know there was an "official" stock version by Xiaomi.

Cheers,

A feature that I miss the most is dialing contacts by writing their name, not inserting phone number. I could bring any contact with only 3 touch most. But with this ROM, I have to insert full number.

does anyone have the statusbar bug in QDT14; sometimes random white dots appear in the statusbar?

Try with xposed theme, with any themes, maybe it will fix this

Or use some of the dialer replacements, which can handle both dialing & contacts. I personally like exDialer for its simplicity and speed: instead of changing the mode to "contacts list", try to type on dial-pad using the T9 approach and it will filter the contacts by name.

Is there any way to replace the modded notification bar with the default jellybean one? (in qdt14)

here's an addition for insane battery life... be cautious.. it breaks certain media functionality..

the process media storage is one of the biggest battery eaters in android but its essential for gallery (pictures and videos) and music, its constantly running and scanning for media and loops if it detects a corrupt file.. Since I don't use the gallery app or the music app (I use QuickPic for photo viewer and MX video player for videos and power amp for music) I decided to freeze the media storage process using Android Tuner Pro which inevitably breaks stock media functions..
Your pics, vids and music will still be accessible with 3rd party apps respectively and say goodbye to battery drain.. less than 1% drain overnight in deep sleep..
let me know if this works for you if youre willing to try..
PS. only tested on Stock 4.1.1 from Xiaomi but should work theoretically will all roms..

Again, don't hold me responsible for any loss or damaged..

Edit : My setup is the same recommended by @RobinHood00 with greenify and no autostarts except whatsapp and bbm.. Mi2 16G with the standard battery...

Not really neccesary but it makes the thread complete :D

Have you got any update in QDT14 version bro ?
i am still struck at last years... the one you shared with me only. Nothing can beat that in terms of smoothness & battery life.
normal mode is buttery smooth as you said, but it jerks in power saving mode...
waiting for their next AOSP from Xiaomi.

I'm also still using it but I wonder if the combination of this rom and intelli3g has a problem with whatsapp. Therefore Android 4.2+ would be useful because of the quicksettingspanel.

There will not be an updated version of QDT14 unless it is 4.3(.1) or 4.4.2.

I use intelli3g voor a week now. It doesn't work ok. Okay, it switches to 2g exaclty after 1 minute screen off. But it doesn't change it back. I have to manualy switch it back to 2g/3g. Am i doing something wrong? Can't seem to find any setting.

My batterlife with Ivan's OASP is awesome :)
When i use only 2g, it can last etarnal
