This is so sad. This is the PERFECT phone, literally. So ahead of its time, NOTCHLESS, the parts are soooo cheap, 120W Charging, Snapdragon 888+ still sharp af. I would love to get the updates for Hyper OS 2 as many other would but sadly you are expected to get a new phone every 2 years... If there would be a exeptional case, it would be the Mix 4.

I have my China ROM Mix 4 as my daily driver now. I have done basically nothing except turn off and uninstall the easy bloat ware, install playstore and go from there.
There were three issues, but only two issues remain.
As everyone said nfc doesn't work on China ROM phone, I was not surprised when gpay didn't work. Even though I could add my card, and pass the safety net checks, it just didn't work at the terminal. But then I discovered the default wallet option buried somewhere deep in the Xiaomi settings, and I changed it from Mi Wallet, to HCE.
And then I added both my bank cards successfully (one of which would not add previously) and have just successfully used my mix4 to pay at a shop using Google pay contactless. So I don't know what to say, don't listen to them, gpay and nfc can work on China ROM phone in Europe.
Prob 1 syncing and notifications seems very chilled! I mean it doesn't seem to bother much about push notifications until it collects up a few, or I turn it on and then it delivers them all at the same time. I think I've done what I can with permissions, battery management and auto launch, but on certain apps the phone just seems to insist it knows better.
Two, the magnificent screen with no camera cutout is not really being used by apps. The only apps that properly used the fullscreen are camera and YouTube. Everything else either leaves a black bar at the top, or leaves the status bar visible.
Would all the pain of unlocking, flashing eu stable ROM, then rooting, then magisk etc resolve my issues reliably without breaking anything else?
I'm very happy as is, it works, I would like it to be perfect, but I don't want to go on a painful journey of discovery only to end up with an even worse experience. So can you tell me if I should stick or twist?

Nop. I own one and experienced both roms. Cn and eu.The EU Rom fixes all issues. I can only recommend

This should be very easy. There are guides for it everywhere. If you don‘t understand smth feel freee to ask. I would love to help
That's very kind, thank you. I have followed the old guides, But things have changed. It seems impossible to unlock without a verifiable Chinese phone number now.

Damn thats unfortunate... Are you sure that there are no guides on XDA or here?
Well, never sure sure of anything, but I followed all the info available a month back, got to the point of having to check the mi Community app, and it just kept saying try again in a week. Then I got gpay working and just figured I'd stop bothering. There are people in China offering to unlock bootloader from there for like 30 bucks. But you'd have to have a lot of faith in them before giving them control. I'll have a look again when children allow!

I want to install the ROM for the first time from China ROM.[GUIDE][odin] How to install Xiaomi.eu ROM for Xiaomi MIX 4
Steps to install xiaomi.eu ROM for first time from China ROM (All your data and files on internal storage will be deleted!)
- Update ROM to the latest via updater app first..
- Unlock your bootloader by Mi Unlock tool https://en.miui.com/unlock/
- Download our ROM zip file BETA or STABLE
- If you are on windows: Right click on downloaded zip - Settings - Unblock zip content
- Unpack downloaded zip file in the PC
- Reboot your device to fastboot mode (press volume down + power)
- Connect to PC via USB cable
- Run fastboot installation script from unpacked zip according your PC operating system
For Windows OS ./windows_fastboot_first_install_with_data_format.bat
For Linux ./linux_fastboot_first_install_with_data_format.sh
For MacOS ./macos_fastboot_first_install_with_data_format.sh
- After reboot its done (first boot may take up to 15min)
- if flashing process stuck on setting slot a, just press Enter
Steps to install update of xiaomi.eu ROM (All your data and files on internal storage will NOT be deleted!)
- Download our ROM zip file WEEKLY or STABLE
- Unpack downloaded zip file in the PC
- Reboot your device to fastboot mode (press volume down + power)
- Connect to PC via USB cable
- Run fastboot installation script from unpacked zip according your PC operating system

Update via OTA:
Installation via OTA is currently not possible due to missing TWRP
Updater will notify you about new version and download it to your device for you
You have to copy it to your PC, unpack it and run fastboot_update_rom sctipt
In the guide, when I click on stable it sends me to the MIUI 12 Version of stables. Should I start with flashing that version or can I just take the latest stable HyperOS 1.0.4.0 ?

So that went nowhere then. I'm still looking for detailed experience of getting the Mix4 unlocked now and running it as daily driver with the .EU ROM....
