Settings /about phone - BASEBAND VERSION.where can I check if I've got the right radio (3.2.8) on my Mi2 ?
Really sad to hear this. Are you 100% sure? I always hoped that someday we could flash a radio that will allow us to use 900Mhz for 3Gtheoretically it shoud be possible. The mdm8215 baseband in the mi2s is paired with a WTR1605 transceiver.
And is is capable of handling the 900Mhz frequency http://www.anandtech.com/show/6541/the-state-of-qualcomms-modems-wtr1605-and-mdm9x25/2 (don't mind the mdm9x25 in the article, it's the LTE counterpart of the mdm8x25 used in the mi2s).
edit:
forgot what I just said, it will never be possible.
It is paired with a ACPM-7051 umts/edge/gsm amplifier. It uses the umts band 1 (2100Mhz) and umts band 5 (850Mhz). besides band1, we need band8 (900mhz). This is why people have bad phone quality/ low speeds when reception is low. Lower frequencies carry further. So inside buildings, we normaly switch to the 900Mhz frequency but this phone can't. (like a lot of other asian phone's. If xiaomi wants to be a big hit on the european market, it needs to take the 900mhz umts into account as well. Otherwise it can never become a serious player on the market here
Thanks. At least the M2A has 3G signal in 900Mhz, so I hope that the new M3 will also get it. For now I don't have too much problems, but all the new antennas use the 900Mhz band, so in the future we will have serious problems to use 3G I'm afraid.

Xiami gives the right specs:

ok so what it means? they have changed something and now it is supporting 900? can it be done on earlier models of mi2s?
