[RADIO] All xiaomi mi2 radio thread

well the worst thing is that there is nothing that can be done to change that except changing mi2s to another brand :(

theoretically it shoud be possible. The mdm8215 baseband in the mi2s is paired with a WTR1605 transceiver.
And is is capable of handling the 900Mhz frequency http://www.anandtech.com/show/6541/the-state-of-qualcomms-modems-wtr1605-and-mdm9x25/2 (don't mind the mdm9x25 in the article, it's the LTE counterpart of the mdm8x25 used in the mi2s).

edit:

forgot what I just said, it will never be possible.
It is paired with a ACPM-7051 umts/edge/gsm amplifier. It uses the umts band 1 (2100Mhz) and umts band 5 (850Mhz). besides band1, we need band8 (900mhz). This is why people have bad phone quality/ low speeds when reception is low. Lower frequencies carry further. So inside buildings, we normaly switch to the 900Mhz frequency but this phone can't. (like a lot of other asian phone's. If xiaomi wants to be a big hit on the european market, it needs to take the 900mhz umts into account as well. Otherwise it can never become a serious player on the market here :(

Xiami gives the right specs:

yes, that's normal and a lot of phones behave the same, since they reconnect to your providers network.

Really sad to hear this. Are you 100% sure? I always hoped that someday we could flash a radio that will allow us to use 900Mhz for 3G :(

The baseband and transceiver are able to. (are actually the same as the ones in google's nexus 4, except that the N4 uses the mdm9215 instead of the mdm8215, wich is it's LTE capable brother). But the power amplifier is only able to operate at 2 bands and those are the umts 850 and 2100Mhz frequencies. So, unfortunately I'm sure yes :( .

Problem here in Belgium, the Netherlands and France for instance is; it's cheaper for the networkoperators to use the 900Mhz umts band because it was cheaper (they didn't need to invest in 2100Mhz stations, because they allready had 900mhz (phone) available).
an other thing is, they need less antennas on 900mhz to cover a the same area. Lower frequencies carry further. Same applies to H/H+ reception in buildings. When I was using my galaxy S3 inside the building I work, I could keep H+ longer deep inside the building, because it switches to 900mhz if the 2100Mhz signal became to weak. Now the mi2s switches to Edge.

Seems like the gross of all china phones operate on those frequencies. And since china is a very large market and it's their primary market, they don't care about the rest I guess.

Thanks. At least the M2A has 3G signal in 900Mhz, so I hope that the new M3 will also get it. For now I don't have too much problems, but all the new antennas use the 900Mhz band, so in the future we will have serious problems to use 3G I'm afraid.

No it Hasnt. Same story on the m2a

All said, I am not any wiser. Is my model Mi2A stuck with whatever radio it came with that cannot be altered improve or updated so that I can make a call without standing under a mast?
Not saying I don't like the phone I do, and would recommend buying one to others, apart from the signal strength issue.

Maybe buying the Mi2s would have been a better option.

Hey, I've accidentally changed the radio bands to USA standards through service settings (*#*#4636#*#*) and there is not EURO or AUTO mode, like on other phones.
I've flashed like 3 of these radio zips a couple of times in different ways and it makes no difference. Can you please some of you help me? I've done factory resets, flashed stock rom, flashed kernel found on here, then even formated everything and started completely from scratch and nothing. What is the fix for this, please?

Also.. when I opened one of these in a notepad, there was a pattern of mostly just alphabet over and over and over again. I know the code is different but.. such a pattern? That doesnt seem right to me.

EDIT: I take it back. Just 5 minutes ago, the network came on. Omg 2,5 days of constant flashing of everything with bust... but thank god for the final result. I was considering sending it back to china..

Look at this! Now Xiaomi says it has 900 for 3G ¿?

ok so what it means? they have changed something and now it is supporting 900? can it be done on earlier models of mi2s?

Do you know if any of these modems corrects the problem of late push messages in Miui rom? whatsapp and similar apps ,thanks everybody and sorry for my bad english xD

Hi all ,I use mi 2 for 6 months now and has always been very fast in taking forward the signal but a couple of days ago I make a flash reset with miflash. now since then I have tried all roms exist for mi 2 (wiui 3.2.22 and 3.8.23, miui, marvel, jbl) everything but the switch 2g-3g internet is very slow and also when signal was H internet is really slow , my sister has a card vodafone and she is fine (it has a s3) is not signal problem then does anyone know what can I do?? (sry for my bad english)

in *#*#4636#*#* menù , on mi2a there is the option of LTE, this means that also supports network LTE? Or this option is present in all terminals?
