[RADIO] All xiaomi mi2 radio thread

Ok :) So is there anything I can do? Inspect more? File a bug report somewhere?
it's since first release of v5 that everyone is complaining the radio problem on the miui official forum, second only to the release of the source code

Ok I'll try to downgrade to latest v4 to see for myself. Or try to hack V4 baseband to V5.

don't downgrade....the release 3.3.29 have updated the touchscreen firmware and the old kernel don't support it...your mi2 will be unusable

I never installed 3.3.29. I believe the packages are including all firmwares and drivers. So flashing the whole package means upgrading/downgrading all the drivers and even the radio (baseband), which is on the lowest level.

Also there is nothing about touchscreen firmware mentioned in 3.3.29 changelog:http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/miui-rom-3-3-29-changelog.19937/

EDIT: or is downgrading generally a bad idea?
1) obviously is FROM the 3.3.29
2) changelog talk about software not firmware in fact since the first v5 release the radio is been update about 6/7 times and it was never wrote in the changelog
3) as on every smartphone (android, symbian, ect...) downgrade firmware brick the phone

I tried to flash a old radio (3.2.8) with cwm, but the baseband version did not change under phone information.

1. wipe data
2. flash radio in system 1

Is there a other way to flash a old radio?

sorry guys. i share your enthusiasm in optimizing the reception of the mi2. but i do not comprehend why all of you are juggling with radios named after miui releases... afaik there is only two or three different radio versions since the the beginning of the year and they do not really make a difference... or did i miss something here?

btw. i just found out that its possible to flash nexus 4 basebands (nexus 4 has same modem but newer firmware versions). just rename modem.img from n4 to non-hlos.bin and put it into one of the baseband zips for mi2 which are linked in this thread. flash as usual. just got myself version 2.0.1700.33 but unfortunatelly it breaks my auto brightness and doesn't enhance reception significantly... so i'm moving back to the modem which came with 3.4.17... perhaps this is of use for somebody here

Tutorial
1. If you don't have flash clockworkmod recovery from this tread http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/2013-03-09-clockworkmod-recovery.19686/ (i think work with updater but i didn't try)
2. Choice and download the radio and put in the internal storage
3. Select with volume key "install zip from sd card" and after "choose zip from sd card"
4. Select the zip and flash in system 1 (if the radio don't change flash the same zip in the system 2. I only have system 1 and haven't these problem)
5. Reboot and you have the new radio

Credits
Thanks to M1cha for cwm and gdb417 for the original zip

someone already swapped using the updater? I'd rather not move the file systems, had many disorders to achieve this unit, I prefer to stay in the same basic,
what would be the best radio? for I am with noise on some calls, use tim Brazil.

maybe u flashed this n4 modem? it says that auto brightness breaks :d

0.48 - Source: JDQ39 OTA update. Note: there are reports that this radio breaks auto-rotation and auto-brightness functionality on 4.2.1 and earlier. No issues on 4.2.2 though. As well, this radio disables LTE functionality, so if you use LTE, you will need to stick with one of the earlier radios.

look this thread for n4 modems

i knew that... thats why i didn't flash the 48 but the 33... still my auto brightness broke

I'm using too MI-2 with 3.5.3 WIUI and TIM (Brazil) simcard and don't have any issues with the baseband, sometimes just the usual carrier problems that most people complain.

ok after broke mi mi 2 i think isn't a good idea flash the nexus 4 radio... because when you retourn to mi 2 radio 3g or 2g not work... But i find a solution :D

flash .48 of nexus 4 whit 3g prefered in the network option
reflash mi2 radio with 3g preferd and all will go well

If you flash the radiowith 2g only 3g not work the same is if you flash with 3g only :p i'm a genius and lucky.

ok guys, im now in a moment when i decide whether I keep mi2s instead of my i9100 but i need better 3g signal (when I have mi2s and sgs2 near each other on the same network - mi2s has Edge and sgs2 has 3g/h+ - will any of these radios improve the reception of the 3g signal? please help. mi2s is a great phone but this reception thing makes me nervous..

thugzie , I think the problem is not in the radio driver, but in poor frequency ranges of Mi-2. For example it does not have an UMTS 900 frequency, with is often used for 3G.
