no keyboard after update...also on multilang version... :(

and yes i have /data/media with preinstall google keyboard...what should i do?
i tried to reflash for 3 times - all finished with same results.

So, I've fixed the problem (I hope) in this way:

- I copied the LatinImeGoogle.apk in the sdcard.
- I manually installed it (using ES File Explorer).

I hope there will be no side effect...

Well, this fix didn't work for me! Thanks for the help anyway.

Well of course you can install it. Its a simple app from /data. Just go to /data/media/preinstall_apps and tap on the apk. This will install app like any other Google Play app. But its not a solution for me...

"Google Keyboard
Application not installed"

I can't install it. =/

i installed it using the method above - reset - choose the new keyboard and everyting working good.

but guys...this is not the way to release a weekly build

It work very well for me, try root explorer, copy the file to sdcard and install the .apk file via inbuilt file explorer.

Still the same error message:
"Google Keyboard
Application not installed"

Can someone upload the keyboard file for me?

Okay, lets answer these questions for anyone with keyboard problems

1) What phone and version were you on previously? (EX: MI2 3.8.16)
2) How did you update and with what? (EX CWM, Updater.apk, etc)
3) After you boot phone via `adb shell`, list the contents of `/data/media/preinstall_apps/`

1) MI2s 16gb 3.8.16
2) Updater
3) LatinImeGoogle.apk, reinstall_apps

Also I was using Portuguese-Brasil and English config. on Settings -> Language Input -> Keyboard & Inputs Methods.

1) Mi2A with 3.8.16 multilanguage from miuiandroid.
2) I downloaded the 3.8.23 directly on the phone using firefox, then I used the updater app, selecting the just downloaded zip file.
3) LatinImeGoogle.apk + reinstall_apps

I have to add one thing, though, I'm not sure if the "system" partition being updated was on 3.8.16 or on the previous one.

Guys please take a look into Settings - input method if its there and needs to be just enabled.. thanks..

1) Mi2 32GB - 3.8.16
2) I installed with CWM 6+ (wipe data/cache/dalvik cache)
3) I couldnt find out yet.

In the settings I see only "Default" but nothing happens

For some reason isolated phones aren't running the script that pulls APKs from /data/media/preinstall_apps and installs them. Can't figure out if its a different recovery problem, permission problem, full /data. I dunno.

Thanks for the upload.

But still not working for me. I'm not able to install the apk.

This is gonna take forever to track down. I had a completely different CertInstaller.apk pop up and it allowed me to install, though we on the same device with same version.

I don't know if it's related to the problem or not, but at the moment of the update I had the option "Security&Privacy->Unknown sources" turned off.
When I manually installed the apk, the installer asked me to turn it on.
Is it possible that the auto-installation of that apk failed because of that?

I am sorry but it's not there on my phone (Mi2)

Some info:
Phone: Mi2
Previous version: 3.8.16
Update method: OTA (updater app)

Apk is in /data/media/preinstall_apps but not in /data/app

Edit:
/data/media/preinstall_apps/reinstall_apps doesn't have executive permissions, maybe that's the problem?

I don't think so, because I had it enabled when I updated.

The permissions are set via stock recovery script with.

Code:
set_perm_recursive(1000, 1000, 0755, 0644, "/data/media/preinstall_apps");

This is used in the stock rom as well. I flashed the stock rom and immediately got all the "s**t chiense apps" like GameStore, etc. So it works for Chinese. We just inserted our own apk into the bunch to remove 20MB of bloat from /system.
