Here are the needed files for Mi5 only from global beta 8.1.18 for notification fix:
Steps (no root needed):

1. Download and copy all these files to phone internal storage
2. Reboot to TWRP recovery
3. Mount > tick "System" and untick "Mount system partition reed only"
4. Go to Advanced > File manager: copy all files one by one and overwrite existing ones on below access path:

/system/framework/framework.jar
/system/framework/framework-res.apk
/system/priv-app/DownloadProvider/DownloadProvider.apk
/system/priv-app/DownloadProviderUi/DownloadProviderUi.apk
/system/priv-app/MiuiSystemUI/MiuiSystemUI.apk

5. Reboot to System

so does this only work for devices that have official global ROMs? I'm probably asking dumb questions but, for instance, I couldn't just replace the files on my Mi5c with those found on a different device's global ROM, right?

Unfortunately no global build for Mi5c so nothing to replace...and I don't think the files for Mi5 would work for Mi5c as well...

For those who use Mi Max 2 and like to change the notification shades to the Global rom style I've made these flashable zip files, all you need to do is flash it through TWRP (I also made the uninstallation zip file, just in case you don't like the global rom notification shades).

Please be noted that 1st reboot after replacing these files took much longer, in my case it took 5 minutes.

Just installed Oreo 8.1.18 on my Mi6. Working great so far thank you!

But on thing i noticed is that the "Wireless Display"-tile is gone. Is this only for me or is it missing for you guys too? Could you please bring it back?

Because after installing there ate oat files inside the systemui folder
And you deodexed or without deodexed files?
You complied files with a separate zip or copy and replace with twrp?

Nope, I didn't install Global ROM, here are my steps :
1. Download and extract the global dev rom.
2. Deodex the rom
3. Take these files and make it into flashable zip.
4. Flash

First boot is indeed very slow. Suggest to wipe cache while at it.

Sharing is nice, but you know.. it's not nice to take someone else works and than changed the name to yours (I was talking about the script).. it took me sometime for making the script and testing the zipfile.. and btw, I've put all credits to @graw2 and @Igor Eisberg in my zipfile since they were the people who researched this port.

PS. I'm trying to use a VPN server too (Hong Kong, but It's very slowly... anyone have I.mi.com China servers direct / local access!?).
I did tried with broadband, mobile data, It's all unsucessfully and failed It.

PS 2. I can upload files, create/delete folders... but It's not possible with app delete or manage older backups (apps, settings, etc)
