Sony WI-XB400 headphones not working with Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

Hi,
my Bluetooth headphones Sony WI-XB400 doesn't work properly with Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. Whenever I play some output (youtube video, Spotify music), after some time from 5 to 120 seconds the headphones stop playing the output.
On the phone, the music / video continues to play, but with no sound. When I pause and play the output, nothing happens.
The issue is usually fixed by turning bluetooth off and on again, but then repeats again.
Could you please help me out?
Repro steps:

1. Pair headphones
2. Play something on Spotify

-> Then, the music stops and I have to pair it again.
What I have tried:
Charging phone/headphones
Shutting on off
Pairing the devices again
Turning off battery conservation
Trying another device - headphones work well on my laptop

Android: 5.0.2
MIUI 8.0.1.0 (LHNCNDG)
