Xiaomi is not much different than any other brands. But we have to remember that even google abandoned Galaxy Nexus after 2 years of support. With this i dont wanna say that is ok for me, because is not. I would the 4.4 sources (i dont care about miui v6). But we can't desperate if a 2 years old phone don't get 4.4 kitkat. Even if the hardware is good enough to run android L. Almost all brands don't give updates to a 2 years old phone. For me we have to push xiaomi in another direction. The publication of 4.4 updated source code. With these, Wjack, M1cha, XperianPro etc can make a good kernels\roms.
Of course we don't expect a lifetime support, that would be crazy.Nexus got a lot of updates as always in those 2 years and that's why people buy nexus devices. But every serious company gives a major update at least at mid and high end devices, i can give you a lot of examples but i'm sure you're already know that.We didn't even get 4.2!!! ... this is unheard for such a powerfull phone.I don't care about miui V6 too, all i want is 4.4 sources like you said. It's not like you can't live without 4.4 but supporting your devices show that you respect your customers and that makes them trust you again.A friend of mine was about to replace his galaxy S3 (which he bought with 4.0.4 and now running 4.3 btw) with Mi4 but after seeing that behavior lost his interest. And i can't blame him because he doesn't want to stick with KitKat...
