Usb / Mtp Connect Problems

I'm running 5.12.3 (smiui) and just noticed that it no longer mounts when attached to the pc (running suse 13.2 and leap 42.1 with kde). The device does exist according to lsusb, and I can connect via adb, but the simple file transfer doesn't. The device notifier (kde) now ignores the device. In older versions of MIUI there was the choice of ptp or mtp, but this seems to be gone. Has this change somehow ruined everything? Or this just an issue with this particular ROM? I don't immediately suspect a kde/Linux issue, but can't rule it out either.
Can anyone confirm similar issues and outline possible solutions?

Okay this is definitely a MIUI bug. It persists in 5.12.31 as well. The workaround (similar to description on MIUI forum) is a 3rd party app to shortcut to missing USB settings. I used QuickShortcutMaker from playstore to do it. Now working again.
