It looks like Xiaomi, together with Google, are intentionally spoiling the shell of our Xiaomi Mi pad 5 (Global).
First of all, to promote their advertising and track users.
This is what is happening now.
The update to Android 12 on Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 brought sudden "bonus" to users:
* In the new "defective" firmware on the desktop added non-switchable Google ads - Google Discover.
* Increased the scale of icons on the desktop: 6x4 for horizontal orientation and 4x6 for vertical orientation. all in order for the user to watch more ads.
* Disabled PC mode. (!)

The only way out is not to install firmware updates by Xiaomi.
Why Xiaomi doing this?!
How to disable firmware upgrades on Xiaomi Mi pad 5?

Not great

I've just gone to settings, update ... You can go to Update Settings within the Update part and switch off Download and Install Automatically

Hopefully this does it.

Maybe a factory reset puts you back.
